Greetings, dear friends, someu that were privileged to know Abbi, my beloved little Shetland Sheepdog. It is with great sadness that I wanted you all to know that she was put to sleep today, after 3-4 weeks of going downhill - probably from cancer. But she went to sleep very peacefully and knowing she was loved.
I first got her from my friend Lisa, when she went to Dallas and couldn't take Abbi with her. Our guess was that she had been abused in the past, and was so timid and withdrawn when I first got her. But thanks to my family, and especially my dog Sandy, she began to come out of her shell. She became the most loving and faithful dog - quiet, friendly, just wanting to be near her people. She loved to be brushed, and had a gorgeous silky coat that waved in the breeze (except the time George had her get a short haircut that made her look like a little woolly bear!) She was a princess, and knew it, and enjoyed being admired. She loved being pet - and if you stopped, she would nudge you with her paw until you started petting her again. She had perfect markings and coloring- even other Sheltie owners would come up to her and say how pretty she was. She was a wonderful dog, and a wonderful companion, and I'm gonna miss her something fierce.
All of you that are dog lovers can of course guess how down George and I are feeling today. So, in honor of Abbi, give your dogs some extra pets and cookies today. Remember my philosophy - a day without a dog lick is a wasted day... Thanks to Abbi... (and Sandy & Ember) my days have been blessed indeed.
