Literal and metaphorical sense. In "The Lies That Bind Us", it is said that Kyle isn't the murderer because he had no scratches when he was found. But in metaphorical sense, he has no scars (memories) of his past life.

When Kyle was lonely and feeling like he didn't belong, he ran to the woods, the only place he knew (ironically, this music video takes place in the woods). His family follows him to the woods and takes him home.

Kyle isn't even his real name! It's made up by that weird guy at the youth center. So basically, nobody knows who he is.
