I'm curious, if you have spare time to talk.

What is the difference between love of a friend, and love of a 'boyfriend' and a 'girlfriend'?

From what I remember in my world, we have nothing of the latter. The only difference I know is that I love some of my friends more than others.

Well... I think when you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, you want to do different things with them that you wouldn't do with your friends.

Like have kids together! Or cuddle in bed. Or kiss them? [she's grasping here]

I was told that love helps to make a family... though I do not know what this 'kiss' is.

You don't know what a kiss is?

It's when you press your lips together with someone else and something... happens! [thinks] Um, I think. I've never kissed anyone before.

... Maybe my species doesn't have love after all... I don't think I can 'kiss'.

[If they are in action together, he pulls down his cape to reveal that his mouth is stitched mostly shut. If not, then he says-]

My lips are covered, and can't really be... uncovered. My mouth would fall apart, most likely.

[Colette's face falls at the sight; she's tempted to ask what happened, but decides to save that question for later]

No, it's okay! Not all kisses are on the mouth! Some can be on the cheek, or the forehead, or on your hand. And if someone really loves you, they wouldn't mind that you couldn't kiss them.

[thinks] Oh! You can hold hands, can't you?

Hmmm... so a kiss is just another 'tradition', like 'married'. Not necessary, but it is what most do.

Yes, I could hold hands, there's nothing preventing me there.

That's a good way to put it! They're just ways of showing your affection for the person you love that way.

Yes! A lot of couples do that.

... You say you've never kissed before, yet you speak of these things like it is common knowledge. I wonder if it is just human to know it, or if I have merely forgotten it.

I don't know.

... Um... does this mean you're not human?

Probably. I look nothing like the rest of you, and I don't remember seeing anything like your kind in what memories I have.

Oh, then you show affection in different ways than humans!

Possibly. I only remember having one friend back 'home', and I don't remember how we spent time together yet.

Do you think you loved this friend?

... Yes. There is no doubt in my mind... She saved me, and softened my heart.
