Layoff update

Mar 09, 2007 08:51

So today we were told the official news of who was going to be laid off or not. No One! No one is being laid off from our group. So at least all of the directs are now happy and they can stop giving us contractors the evil eye every time we see them. And it seemed that Mr. J. has known this for at least this week. Which leads me to the question of why did they not let us know until today? Was it it keep the fear in the employees so that they would work harder in an effort to some how keep their jobs, or was it so that we didn't tell the other people in the building, who are not in our group, that we were safe and cause a riot? I just do not understand the mentality here that employee's should be motivated to work by having the fear of God placed into their bellies. To me, this seems to lead to three situations that do nothing to better the corporation. First, after enough time of this, the good, qualified and skilled employees will have left because they don't want to nor need to deal with this fear. They can get a good job somewhere else where they feel more appreciated and valued. Secondly, the people who can't or don't want to find some where better will stay until the final axes falls which leads to lazy, unskilled employees. And that is never a good situation for a company. Thirdly, the company will start to be known as having these practices which will inevitably hinder their hiring opportunities.
