My pet theories
So I may have found the one redeeming clue to the mystery that is the island.
Since i talk about nothing but LOST on this blog anyway - i will not bother to clarify what my theories are concerning in the future,
The Lostaways are now in the hitting the two month mark on the island.
And as Zeke sinisterly pointed out - 50 days huh, not that long....but oh so long enough.
There are several theories about the button and Smokey the monster.
ONe of them is that Smokey is really made up of a cloud of nanobots - Smokey Jr.s, if you will.
The button then controls the rate at which the cloud grows and expands b/c apparently Smokeynanos are a horny bunch of bots that mate faster than rabbits do. So every 108 min a part of the cloud possibly gets destroyed.
Another one that I developed independent of outside thought has been that the whole island is a biodome and that Smokey the monster is actually a cloud of Pathogenic agents like Ebola or necrotizing fascitiis or a slow neuropathic agent/hallucinogen. The button controls the rate of their dissemination and if the button is not pressed regularly the agent can't be disseminated/saturated on the island and the whole place is then quarantine free and down goes Hanzo's experiment(s). This would explain why the button is BAD. Becoz it spreads disease and fear. And the life cycle of the "Agent" aka Smokey Minis is prolly 2 months - judging by Rousseau's conversation with Sayid.
A better thought has now formed in my head - having spotted Michael Crichton's "Prey" on a discount book stand a week ago - my brain started a churning. Perhaps Smokey is not only nanobot like in consistency but is a predator that lurks also - so not only is it a cloud of nanos swirling and judging, flitting and roaring alternately, but is also the way the disease is spread, perhaps the nanobots themselves are the disease. Who's to say?
ANyways - i do believe that the last epi (Fire + Water) was a beginning of how the new arrivals are going to start to lose their minds. A symptom of the disease, spreading slowly but surely.
I believe Charlie is afflicted. Charlie with his heroin addiction is sure to be classically the more immunocompromised of them all....and therefore definitely one of the first to be affected.

Btw - I hate men and I hate myself even more. I think I have a bad attitude in general. I should stop being a worldly person.
