Who: Rita and anyone When: Friday, August 24 (after lunch - apologies for the very early postage, but I needed to get up before work) Where: Sitting room What: Rita finds a boggart in a cupboard Rating:TBA Status: Incomplete
As Ginny came out of thekitchen, sandwich in hand, se froze. Rita was battling with... Something.
With a crack, the Boggart turned its attention to Ginny, transforming into a book. But not just any book - this was Tom Riddle's Diary.
Ginny was unsettled, but she knew she's fought worse. Her wand appeared in her hand, as if from nowhere, and she cried 'Riddikulus!' and a basilisk tooth came out of nowhere and speared the book.
Despite her earlier thought, Rita was desperately glad when Ginny entered the room and the boggart turned its attention on her. It only took her a moment to prepare herself. While the creature's attention was on the girl, Rita took a moment to visualise the pin bent and ineffectual, and was ready with her wand when it turned to her again.
"Riddikulus!" This time with a lot more power, and the spike warped and bent until she laughed at it, though the sound was more hollow than genuine. With a crack, it turned back to the dark, nondescript shape it had been when it first emerged from the wardrobe, and fled.
"Merlin," Rita breathed. "What's next in this bloody house? Sodding Ministry probably put that thing there on purpose." She shoved her wand back into her sleeve and dropped a hand onto the back of the sofa to support herself
( ... )
"T...that wasn't just any book" Ginny replied, still slightly shaken "That book used to belong to You-Know-Who"
She paused, and composed herself.
"Here's a deal for you. Tell me why your true terror is a pin, and I'll give you an exclusive on how a known Death Eater tried to destroy Hogwarts from the inside, using a fragment of Voldemort's soul"
Rita's arched an eyebrow in surprise. That had come out of nowhere, hadn't it?
And oh, what a fascinating tidbit. She felt the promise of story before her like a lure, but forced herself to pull back and study the girl making the offer.
The offer itself was an interesting one - an 'exclusive' in a place they were visible to the entire wizarding world. The price, though, was too high - but if Rita admitted it was too high, she'd be admitting that there was something she definitely didn't want the world to know.
Clever. Rather Slytherin. But Weasley wasn't a Slytherin, so was Rita reading too much into it?
When in doubt, stall.
"That's an intriguing prospect, I must say, but what makes you think my story is worth giving up that information for?"
