Rita stopped in the doorway of the kitchen and arched an eyebrow. Well, this was interesting. There was a note pinned to the frame. She read it. And chuckled.
Lovely.
"I think Big Brother wants to wish us a happy halloween," she called.
"I'll say" said Ginny, entering from the garden with Zephyrus in hand. She looked at the notes.
"Muggle bowling? Interesting. And this Spider's Web game..." Ginny attention was drawn to the baloons on strings.
"Prizes? And points? Sounds like something worth doing..." She turned, and picked one of the balloons. A simple charm made *her* string change colour to a deep purple. She turned to Rita "Race you to the end?"
Rita palmed her wand out and charmed her own string acid green. "You're on. And if we're doing all the hard work, I'm sure Neville can catch up if he wants to play."
She weaved her way through the web to her balloon, under and over the strings, and took hold of it.
Merlin, this was tangled up rather well. Trying to get it apart was going to be a nightmare.
It was slow, and took a lot of concentration and patience - the latter of which Rita had never been terribly full of. But points! And a prize! She could do it.
She was going well, she thought. At least until she found her green string completely tangled with Ginny's purple, between the legs of the kitchen chair. How were they going to do this?
"Looks like it's co-operation time, then" ommented Ginny as she surveyed the knot. The irony of that coment was not lost on her - She was trading friendly comments a woman who she *knew* has caused vast trouble for Harry. Blame the house? Or accept that maybe she had been more than a little prejudiced against Rita?
Either way, there was a task to be done. Giny moved a section of her string, to allow Rita to untangle hers.
Rita snorted. "Co-operation, Slytherin and Gryffindor. This will be one for the history books."
But it worked. Rita unwound her string as far as Ginny's would let her, then held hers in place while the girl untangled hers. A few more goes, and they were free.
Then they were off again, twisting and pulling and stepping over the web low to the floor. There was a spot where her string was threaded over the top of the wall unit, and she couldn't reach.
"Shit," she hissed. "Are we allowed to use our wands?"
Lovely.

Ginny immediately began fiddling with the string. She'd never been much for sewing, but at least her mother had tried. It might be helpful...

Sometimes, she hated being small.
