Pansy snorted as she read through the riddle. The Ministry certainly wasn't going to make it easy for them, she contemplated sarcastically with a roll of her eyes. Looking around for Longbottom, she stepped closer to the sphinx.
"Hello," he murmured, looking warily at the sheet of parchment, then approaching it. He laughed and shook his head, glancing over to Draco briefly, then back to Pansy. "That's a wizarding riddle, Malfoy."
He sat down on the edge of the table beside the sphinx and leant over to stroke it's head, then looked back up at Pansy. "The most interesting thing about the sphinx is how it affected the Muggle community." He smiled thoughtfully at it. "They adopted it to guard the passageways through which the Sun God, Ra, had to pass; a replacement for the lions which had guarded the gates to heaven in the past. Got the wrong idea, of course."
He fell silent, glancing back at Pansy and flushing. "Sorry...she was really passionate about the ancient world..." He fell quiet and dropped his head, caught in memories about his grandmother.
Pansy silently watched Longbottom as he spoke and chuckled, shaking her head as he kept going. He sounded about as passionate about this as the person he mentioned. She patted his shoulder and gestured at the sphinx. "Well, then... care to answer the creature, Longbottom?" She smirked.
"I rather think we need to tell it together," he said, and pulled Pansy closer, gently, then looked up at him. "Here," he said, and leant to breathe the answer into her ear. "We should whisper it to the Sphinx...let everyone else work it out themselves."
She let him pull her closer and leaned towards the Sphinx. "We have to touch its head as well." She muttered and put the tip of her fingers on the headdress. "On three?" She smirked and began counting down.
"Okay..." he answered, touching his own finger to the Sphinx's head and leaning down on one side of it, his eyes meeting Pansy's. He counted out without making a sound, and then answered the Sphinx. "Man"
"Man." She whispered at the same time, then stepped back and watched the Sphinx closely, searching fo any sign that the stone beast might snap at them.
Neville laughed and looked up at Pansy, then briefly hugged her, before realising what he was doing and stepping back. He coughed then looked away. "Tomorrow then, eh?" he asked.
Pansy blinked as she felt his arms around her waist, then just as soon Longbottom had stepped back. She arched an eyebrow at him in amusement and nodded. "Tomorrow, another riddle to crack. Lets see if it will be as easy as todays." She smirked.
"I wouldn't say it was easy...just lucky." He tilted his head to one side and patted his fingers on his arms. "Allright then. Later." He turned on the spot, and flushing, strolled off.
