Zedd, I don't think she's lying.

I would rather that Joker had you than this woman, Alphonse. And unlike anyone else, I know what happened to you the last time.

...

Tell me about her.

She is Mord Sith. They are born human, but she is now a creature of magic, a weapon created by magic. their use is unthinkable to ration men, but...in D'Hara, the Lord Rahl keeps dozens, perhaps more, at his beck and call.

She captures Magic. Even a Wizard of the First Order, like myself, would be captured without thought if I was foolish enough to use my magic on that woman...and because of the nature of her magic, I cannot say she will be incapable of catching more than magic from our world; or more than simply magic, for that matter.

She... catches magic? ... and alchemy does have an element of... I wonder. How does she do that? Are there conditions? Does she have to touch you, or be near you?

If magic touches her, it is hers.

There is only one exception in the whole of my world, and I do not know the cause of it, nor did any book I have ever read.

If I strike out at her from thirty miles away, she would still have me.

Leave her alone, Alphonse.

The only reason my alchemy would touch her directly would be if I used it on her body. The only reason I would do that would be to kill her. I have never done that. Not once. I've seen it done... I never, ever want to have to.

... Zedd... she really doesn't seem hostile. Her story is too wild not to be true. I don't think she's acting at all. If she really has that power she wouldn't need to act, would she?

I will be careful, but... I don't think I can leave her alone. I promise not to give her any information about you.

Alphonse, those creatures were created to capture magic, but they live for one purpose: pain. Mord Sith are second to nothing but the Keeper in their ability to give pain to another human being.

And you never considered you alchemy anything but science...yet now you suspect it might be something more. There are ways magic may come in contact with her that have nothing to do with me actually throwing lightning at her...and she would still have me.

[Al closes his eyes, takes a breath.]

... I'll stay away, physically. She can't hurt me through the PCD.

Until a few months ago I didn't, and then I came to realize that if it didn't involve some form of magic, then I wouldn't be able to activate the transmutation sequences. It is in itself a science, but... it's very similar to magic. I have no proof either way but I strongly suspect it's related.

Your brother, too, and anyone else you might be able to influence. Capturing magic is not her only way of giving pain.

The only reason Magic and Science are not the same thing is because somewhere, we fail to understand the connection.

[Al glances away from the feed, his eyes haunted.] I'll make sure to be careful. Very careful.

...

... have I ever told you that I love the way you explain things?

Please do, Alphonse.

...no, no you have not.

bloodseal_soul October 18 2008, 13:27:59 UTC
I will.

... it makes so much sense, and in a way it's almost like poetry.

[a pause]

Truth is Truth, Alphonse, and the beauty of it lies in that fact, not in fancy words or twists of phrase.

Truth is beautiful without any of that, yes, but it helps to hear it summed up so neatly.

It's very clarifying.

Tell that to Thomas, won't you?
