Some Kind of Mage Guild Thingee[locked from hostiles]

So, I was thinking about the whole Kurata thing. We have DATS, and the Titans in Neon, but aside from that, it's mostly based on who knows who. And, having some organization couldn't hurt when bad things go down. I just came from a world where vampires might pick off anyone with magical talent. So, the magic users being organized might be a ( Read more... )

I was actually considering this myself. I had a similar thought when I first arrived, as you may recall, but I didn't have the resources to do anything.

I'd really like to open a branch of M.A.G.I. here, at least the information gathering and sharing aspect of it... So far, there hasn't seemed to be much of a representation for those in this world who're magically adept. That needs to change, or we're going to find ourselves in a lot of trouble should there arise a magical thread.

Yeah. I mean, I've met some nasty types back home, and Yggdrasil hasn't done the best job in screening people here. Even being able to advise the non-magic Tamers to break out the cold iron and salt or whatever would be good.

Tell me more about M.A.G.I.

Makes me wonder if there's any Orichalcum or similar minerals in the Digital World, now that you mention it. I do prefer to be prepared in the face of everything though. I mean, I can advise DATS and the Titans till my face turns blue, but sometimes that just isn't enough ( ... )

Do you know does DATS have as their magical go-to person? I can't imagine them not having someone on staff.

If you ignore the bit about 'keeping the public informed', sounds a bit like the White Council. Except possibly a bit less stuck-up. But, something like that would be really useful, especially if we do need to talk to people.

Actually... unless something's changed and I haven't been informed, I think I'm it. I'm not sure if DATS really understands what magic can do, and the threat that it poses... But then, not many universes seem to take magic seriously.

I think the main difference probably had to do with government recognition. With government acceptance comes full disclosure and oversight. Not that oversight is a good thing when it's done by people who don't have a magical thread in their body... But that's a complaint for another time.

I think the hardest part will be getting the word out, and getting everyone to go along with it. We mages tend to be reclusive by nature... even those of us in the public eye.

I can understand that. I used to consult with the Chicago PD, I think I mentioned. I'm off their payrolls now, since one too many people didn't believe in magic, but at least I still have some contacts there. They might not be mages, but they aren't stupid or ignorant.

Yeah. It's not just mages back home. I've met vampires who still think exposing me as a magic user is a threat. They don't seem to remember that I listed myself in the Yellow Pages -- if anything, they'd just give me more credibility.

Even getting a 'If you see something weird and it's magic, let someone know, and we'll make sure everyone knows what it is (and pass on countermeasures' network would be nice.

Hmmm... Tell you what, why I don't I do some digging around Tetha and Neon City, see what their respective governments think about us founding an organization like that? I'd really feel a lot more comfortable if we did get a group going that could provide this service...

Sounds good. I can handle Tetha, though, if you want to take Neon.

That sounds like a good plan to me. I'll go out and pound the pavement as soon as I finish working on these detection charms. (I'm awfully paranoid after that last invasion...)

I don't blame you. I'm lucky the shop wasn't that badly damaged while I was in Neon. I did have to replace some windows, but nothing was stolen.
