1. Name: Emily
2. Age (no one under 13, please): 17
3. Location: Pennsylvania, USA
4a. Three positive adjectives to describe yourself: energetic, open-minded, warm (as in temperament, not temperature, although people do think I have warm hands.)
4b. Three negative adjectives to describe yourself: pessimistic, passive, procrastinator
5. If you could live anywhere in the world for one year, where would you go, and why?: I would either live in Paris or Beijing. I want to live in Paris mostly because I have been taking French for so long and have not had the occasion to use it. I also really like fashion and good cooking, so Paris is an obvious choice for those things. I chose Beijing because I am half Chinese, but I live with my American parent, so I have not had a lot of exposure to the culture, a large part of my identity. I definitely want to spend a lot of time there at some point in my life, probably in college.
6. Explain the significance/meaning/origin of your username: It’s various parts of my name. “Emily” backwards is YLIME - hence, the “lime” part, and my initials are ESC, or the abbreviation for “escape.” Therefore, LimeEscape.
7. What's your favourite holiday, and why?: Christmas, and not for the massive accumulation of stuff. I like giving people gifts, and the whole spirit of the holiday is just much lighter than normal life. People do get stressed, yes, but when you get past the menial things, I find it’s a good time to be with people I love. And I like the anticipation up to it too.
8. Favourite three books (besides Harry Potter): The Golden Compass (Philip Pullmann), Neverwhere (Neil Gaiman), and The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand).
9. What is or was your favourite and or best subject in school? English is my favorite subject. I like writing, reading, and analyzing books. Mostly, I like figuring out why characters do what they do (which is why I like The Fountainhead so much), what symbols the author uses, and how the author’s life experiences influenced his/her writing.
10. If you could ask JKR one question, what would it be? “If you were reincarnated into a different life (i.e. country, occupation, gender, socioeconomic status) , what would it be and why?” I think, because she creates such vibrant characters, she would have a lot of fun with that question
11. Which of the Harry Potter books thus far was your favourite, and why?: PoA, most definitely. The time-turner thing came out of nowhere, but she still put in the smallest details of foreshadowing so you might have figured it out. I haven’t heard of anyone that did, though. She also used time travel in a non-cliché way, which is quite a feat. I also am a huge Sirius fan. (I’ll refrain from fangirl squee-ing)
12. If you could have the power to perform one spell, and only one spell, absolutely flawlessly for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? Apprating. I’m late for everything, so being able to apprate would make my life so much easier.
13. What House do you honestly think you’d end up in, and why?: I really do not know. For a while, I thought of myself as a Ravenclaw, but even though I have a very intellectual side, it does not dominate my personality the way I think it would for a true Ravenclaw. I have rebellious and crazy streaks like I imagine Gryffindors do. To the crazy end, I once serenaded my friend with cheesy love songs for a half hour at lunch for no apparent reason. I’m also very loyal to my friends, which is more of a Hufflepuff thing. But what I do know is that I’m not a Slytherin. I always feel terrible when I’m mean to them, usually when I’m angry. With all that, I guess it’s just “not Slytherin.”
14. Are you willing to accept cross-gendered votes/stamps?: Yup.
15. Anything else we should know?: I think musical taste describes people quite well, so I’ll list my favorite bands, in no particular order: Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, The Killers, Green Day, and Blur. Also, some of my (mostly) frivolous life ambitions: Be in the Peace Corps, pick a lock, hotwire a car, see the Northern Lights, be an extra in a movie, be in my high school’s holiday show, and go to the Academy Awards. That about covers it.
