Kris woke slowly the next morning, a not unpleasant ache in his lower back and ass. He smiled as he stretched and then stopped breathing. He had fucked Adam last night, not Dane. He sat up a little quickly, head spinning from the rush, and took a quick look around. Adam was nowhere to be seen.
"Humph!" Kris grunted and headed to his own shower to clean up. He had flakey dried-on come all over his torso.
After the water was warm, he stepped in and sighed. Needless to say, he was startled when the door to his bathroom opened and closed and a very naked and obviously aroused Adam, stepped into the shower with him.
"What the hell are you doing?" Kris asked bitingly.
"Taking a shower with my lover." Adam said without heat.
"I’m not your lover." Kris huffed.
"Hmm, I think the need for the shower tells me that’s a lie." Adam ran his hands down Kris’s chest, then up his sides and pulled him into him, giving Kris a kiss that he couldn’t turn away from.
Kris pulled back, "What are we doing?"
Adam blinked, "Taking a shower."
Kris rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean."
Adam smiled, "Well, I suggest that you tell your boss that you are sleeping with your…not boss."
"Not boss? What?"
"You know, that you slept with the guy you are supposed to be ‘baby-sitting’, you should tell your boss."
Kris glared at Adam and smacked his hands away. "You slept with me to get me fired?" Kris could feel his face heating up, embarrassment and anger combining into a nuclear reaction. "I can’t fucking believe you! Of all the asshole things to do…" Kris stepped away from Adam and practically fell out of the shower to get away from him.
"Kris, are you okay? What the fuck?"
Kris turned on him, face red, eyes blazing. "You are an evil man, Adam Lambert. I fucking quit! Happy now?"
Adam’s mouth dropped open, but Kris didn’t give him a chance to respond as he left the bathroom like Satan himself was after him, and in Kris’ mind, he was.
Two days later found Kris in his own apartment as his door was being pounded on repeatedly. He assumed it was Adam and was doing his best to ignore it.
"Kris, open this damn door! It’s Peter and I need to speak with you!"
Kris’ eyes got wide. He had called Peter as he was leaving Adam’s house telling him that he couldn’t work for Adam anymore and he was sorry to break contract, but the man was unbearable. Peter had called him more than once, so had Adam for that matter, but he had neither answered nor returned any of them.
"Kris, open this door, right now! I’m not leaving until I speak with you!" Peter yelled.
Kris moaned but went and opened the door. Peter stormed in without apology and immediately started talking.
"I need you to come back to work. I don’t care what Adam did. I’ll double your money. He won’t leave his house, refused to work at all and won’t answer my calls."
Kris opened his mouth to say no but Peter stopped him.
"I know what happened, before Adam stopped taking my calls, he told me. It doesn’t matter, I need you to come back to work, Kris. Adam needs you to come back to work."
Kris sat down on the couch and just looked up at Peter. "No. He tried to get me fired, Peter, by sleeping with me! Do you know how that makes me feel?"
Peter sat in the chair across from him. "No he didn’t." Peter looked slightly confused. "He told me until you come back; he’s not doing a damn thing."
Kris looked startled. "What? He can’t do that? And why would he?"
Peter gave him a sympathetic look. "You really don’t know, do you?"
Kris had no idea what Peter was talking about and said so.
"I see." Peter studied him like he was thinking. "Come to my office tomorrow and we will settle up then."
Kris didn’t know what to say, so he just nodded.
The next morning, Kris got up, took a shower, dressed and made his way to the studio. He had thought about what Peter had said and he still couldn’t figure out what he was talking about. What didn’t he know? Why was Adam being all Diva about him not working as his PA anymore? Kris couldn’t make sense of it, so he had stopped trying sometime early in the morning and got a few hours of sleep. At least he knew that Adam wouldn’t be there since he was refusing to leave his house.
Kris was waiting for Peter outside his office. He could hear Peter yelling at someone through the doors. Peter’s secretary looked sheepishly at him and gave him a small smile. Ten minutes later he was admitted inside. Kris had assumed Peter was on the phone with someone since no one had left prior to him going in, but he had been wrong. Adam sat in one of the chairs looking worse than Kris could ever remember seeing him.
Adam didn’t even turn to look at him.
Kris sat down without a word.
Peter smiled. "Now that we are all here, I want you to listen to something, Kris."
Adam squirmed in his chair but still said nothing.
Kris side-eyed him but kept quiet as well.
Peter spoke again. "If, Kristopher, after you hear this and you still want to quit, I will release you from your contract."
Kris blinked, looked at Peter and then turned to look fully at Adam for the first time. Turning back to Peter when Adam refused to meet his gaze, Kris nodded once.
Peter pressed play on his iPod dock and a song started playing, one he hadn’t heard before. It had an up tempo dance beat and then Adam’s voice came through loud and clear.
"…Take it off, uh and try me on, the hottest threads, you ever wore. So ro-o-oll the dice, get lucky tonight. I know you're holding back, no more hesitation. Come on…"
Kris listened to the whole song, a confused look on his face. When it was over, Peter pressed pause and looked at them both.
"Adam, would you like to explain that song to Kris? When you wrote it and why?" Peter sat back in his chair and crossed his arms, waiting.
Adam snuck a look at Kris quickly for the first time since he had come into the room. "I…I was finishing it the night we…the night you brought Dane over."
Kris’s eyes didn’t leave Adam’s.
"I started writing it after you moved into my house and I thought that maybe, you might, you know, be gay."
Kris was confused again and waited to see what else Adam would say.
Adam sighed, "Look, I…I didn’t sleep with you to get you fired Kris. I slept with you because I wanted to. I’ve wanted to for a long time and…well, the song is about you." Adam looked away.
Kris set there, stunned. "About me?"
Peter quietly left the room. Neither of them noticed.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"What do you mean why?"
"Why would you write a song like that about me? I’m just your PA, whom you hate."
Adam laughed but there was no mirth in it. "I don’t hate you, Kris, far from it."
"You don’t?"
"No."
"Okay."
Adam glared at him. "That’s all you’ve got to say? Okay?"
"What the hell am I supposed to say?"
Adam’s shoulders dropped. "I told Peter this wouldn’t work. I told him, but he wouldn’t listen to me, yelled at me instead."
Kris sat back in his chair, trying to puzzle this entire thing out. Adam had written the song about him, before they slept together, had been working on it the night they did. Adam didn’t hate him, or was saying he didn’t.
"You don’t hate me?" Kris asked, getting a funny feeling in his chest.
"No, Kris, I don’t hate you. I’m in love with you." Adam looked so defeated.
Kris was stunned, so shocked in fact, that he didn’t know what to say. He sat there with his mouth open, looking like a deer in headlights.
Adam started talking fast, "I think I’ve loved since that first meeting when you stood up to me and told me how it was going to be, that you would only move into my house if you could have one day off and I couldn’t call you on that day. People normally don’t talk to me like that. At least that was the start of it for me. I don’t know what else to say, Kris. Won’t you think about staying? I understand if I’ve blown it with you, with us, but I don’t want you to screw up your chances, you know?"
Kris managed to close his mouth, but still said nothing.
"You can manage being around me for a few more months, right? I’ll leave you alone if that’s what you want, you don’t even have to stay in my house…"
Kris interrupted him, "Shut up."
Adam blinked, taken aback. "What?"
"I said shut up, Adam. You talk too much." Kris stood, made his way to Adam, promptly sat down in his lap and kissed the breath out of him. When they came up for air, Kris asked, "Why didn’t you say something?"
Adam smiled, "When did you give me chance?" He ran his hands up Kris’ back.
"But…" Kris started.
"You’ve got a really nice one." Adam interrupted, rubbing his hands over Kris’ ass.
Kris smirked, "Yeah?"
Adam squeezed his cheeks, "Oh yeah."
Peter chose that moment to come back into his office.
Kris frowned, "When did you leave?"
Peter laughed. "Are we good?"
Kris kissed Adam again softly. "Yeah, I think we’re good."
Peter quirked an eyebrow, "Adam?"
Adam smiled into Kris’ eyes, not bothering to even look Peter’s way. "We’re very good."
Six months later…
"Are you ready?" Adam asked Kris frowning.
"Why are you frowning at me?" Kris looked himself over.
"You’re wearing that damn plaid again."
Kris smiled and sauntered over to Adam, grabbing him by his jacket lapels. "So? Don’t diss the Gucci."
Adam snorted, "I hate plaid."
Kris kissed him, "But you love me."
Adam eyes softened, "Yes, I do."
Kris fidgeted with his tie.
"You look fine, Kristopher."
"I look like a mouse next to you." He gave Adam a heated once over.
Adam smiled at him brighter. "You like?"
Kris frowned. "Your damn pants are too tight."
Adam laughed. "Hmm, you think?"
Kris just shook his head.
"So, are you ready for this red carpet thing? It’s your first as my official boyfriend."
Kris smiled, "I’ve been ready."
Adam grabbed Kris’ hand and they walked out together into the flashing lights of the cameras.
