Coffee Is A Drag - Part 6

Adam spent the next few days avoiding Kris while he made his plans. He called in all of his friends who knew about the things he needed. He felt bad about not speaking to Krista at work and she had begun to look tired. He knew that he had to get his plan together soon before Kris totally gave up on him and moved on. The thought stopped him from applying his make-up.

"Raja?"

"Hmm?"

"You don’t think Krista will give up on me before I can pull this off do you?" Adam worried his bottom lip.

"Bitch, quit fuckin’ up my hard work!" Raja slapped the back of his head. "This shit takes time to apply correctly and you need to pay attention."

"Ow…" Adam said with a scowl. "Answer my question already. Do you think she’ll wait on me?"

Raja rolled her eyes and gave a dramatic sigh. "That girl has been all about you for months now, what makes you think that she won’t wait?"

"I sort of threw her out of my house the morning after we had sex."

Raja stopped her hand in mid-brush. "You did what now?"

Adam sighed and explained everything from the beginning.

"I wondered what had happened, Krista was so excited that night she dressed up like a golden goddess and since then she’s been…off her game. I and some of the other girls asked but she wouldn’t say anything. All she would tell me was that she messed up."

Adam felt bad but Kris had been wrong but maybe he had been too hasty in his judgment. "I think I’m in love with him."

Raja smiled knowingly, "Finally figured it out, did you? Wondered how long it was doing to take you." She put her brush down and pulled the black wig over Adam’s hair and started styling it.

"Am I going to look okay in this…this…"

"Don’t dis the Drag, bitch!" Raja told him.

"I’m not, it’s just, it’s been a long time since I dressed."

"You’ll pass." Raja spun the chair around and let Adam see himself in the mirror. "You should wear your silver platform boots."

Adam stared into the mirror, all wide blue eyes and long black hair. "I’m so…pretty!"

"You say that like you thought I have no skills?" Raja tapped the back of his head again.

Adam didn’t get a chance to say anything back because just then, a chipper voice came down the hall. "Here’s your dress, baby." Brad said as he stepped through the bathroom door. "Isn’t it pretty?"

Adam stood on the street corner, balancing from foot to foot, making up his mind he had enough willpower to pull this off. Taking a deep breath, he started walking. Upon reaching the door, he took a breath and walked through with his back straight and his head held high.

Kris didn’t look up when he heard the door open. It was late, close to closing so he said, "Can I help you?" without bothering to look at who was standing there.

He looked up slowly when he heard this smooth, sultry voice say, "I do believe you can handsome." His eyes kept traveling up and up to look into familiar blue eyes, but that’s all that was familiar. He blinked to make sure that his mind wasn’t playing tricks on him. No, he was pretty sure that was "Adam??"

The tall, very tall, dark haired woman standing on the other side of the counter tisked loudly at him. "Now, sir, you know that you can’t be calling this girl by that name!" The lady batted her lashes then threw her long black hair over one shoulder. "The name is Madam."

Kris blinked again and then felt his face heating up. Adam had come to see him, him, not anyone else and dressed like…like that! "Madam?" He managed to stumble out.

"Mmhmm, and I’ve come to take you out, baby. Isn’t it almost closing time?"

Kris just nodded and took off his apron. Shutting down machines and lowering the lights. Madam just stood there and watched him while he finished closing up. Once done and with jacket in hand, he looked back up at those gorgeous blue eyes. "How tall are you in those?" He pointed down at the silver boots.

Madam smiled at him, "About 6’4". Why? Too much?"

Kris swallowed hard again and shook his head. "Um, no. Why are you here?"

"I told you why." She put her arm through his. "To take you out, honey. Where do you want to go?"

He knew right where he wanted to go but he didn’t think that would be considered ‘out’. "I…well, where I really want to go?" He asked softly.

Madam stopped and turned Kris toward her. She took his face in her hands, "Yes, where you really want to go." She bent down and brushed her lips over his.

"Your place." He whispered looking up into Madam’s face with a barely there smile.

Kris sat in the same place on Adam’s couch he had the last time he was here. He couldn’t deny being nervous as the thought of that day came back to him in full force. He hoped this time would end better. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying not to fidget.

When Adam came out of the bedroom, dressed as, well, Adam, he didn’t know what to say, all thought fled from his mind. Adam made a beautiful woman, but nothing could compare to just Adam. "You were beautiful earlier, but now…" He found himself stammering and just closed his mouth instead.

Adam sat on the other end of the couch. "Kris, we really need to talk all this through."

Kris nodded his understanding, still keeping quiet.

"I should have listened to you that morning but I was so shocked and I felt… betrayed." Adam took a breath and continued. "I didn’t stop to consider your feelings or see things from your perspective. I should have and I’m sorry."

With wide eyes, Kris nodded and then stopped, realizing what he was doing. "I’m sorry!" He blurted out quickly.

Adam held out his hand. Kris took it and Adam pulled him into his lap. Kris melted. "Adam, I missed you so much. I thought…" he sniffed and tried to pull himself together. "I thought you would never forgive me."

Adam held him tighter. "We need some ground rules though…"

Kris listen as Adam talked like they had a future together. "You want… you want to be with me?"

Adam smiled and kissed him deeply, "Yes, baby. I want to be with you." Adam pushed him down on the couch. "I want to touch you…"

There was no way Kris was going to argue with that as he lost himself in the passionate embrace of Adam.

Two months later found Adam waiting restlessly for Krista to hit the stage. When she did, the world went away and all Adam could see was her. Damn, he loved her, every single part of her. He hadn’t told her that yet though.

Once Krista left the stage, Adam got busy and didn’t think about anything but filling orders for the next few minutes. When he took a breather, Krista was waiting for him at the bar.

"Hey Adam." She flirted with him shamelessly now. He loved it.

"Hey beautiful." He grabbed her up and pulled her tight into him, kissing her soundly.

Krista giggled. "Put me down!" She smacked at his hands.

"Nope, not ever letting you go." Adam let her slide down his body as her high heels hit the floor, he kissed her again. "I love you."

Krista blinked, "What?"

"I love you. I love when you’re dressed like this, I love when you’re working in the coffee shop. I even love you in plaid, but honey; really, we have to work on that plaid business. I just love you, all of you." He smiled at her.

Krista’s face lit up. She threw her arms around his neck and squeezed him tight. "I love you too, Adam, so much!"

"Fuck, you two, go get a room!" Tommy yelled from the other end of the bar while some of the customers laughed.

Adam flipped him off and whispered into Krista’s ear, "Do you think I could make love to you tonight with your stocking and stiletto’s on…and nothing else?"

Krista gave him a wicked grin. "I think that can be arranged." She winked at him as she set back down on her stool and crossed her legs.

Adam ran a hand up her thigh, smiling wickedly. "I really do love you, Kris."

She smacked him again, "Baby, you know better than to call this girl by that name."

Adam laughed at having his own words thrown back at him. "Forgive me?" He nibbled at her lips.

"Always." Krista whispered.

Adam gave her ass a squeeze, "Later." He promised as he went to pick up an order.

Krista smiled at him, "Later."

As Adam walked away, he thought about all the love he could have missed out on if he hadn’t given Kris a second chance. Sometimes bad things happen to make you appreciate what you’ve got.
