Adam hurried back to the coffee shop he had seen the cute guy in this morning. After nailing his audition, he was feeling particularly brave and had made up his mind to ask the cutie out. Krista hadn’t given him the time of day at the club and no matter what Tommy or Brad said, he knew that she just didn't like him. There's no way that a queen who moves like her on stage, flirting with everyone in eyesight, could be shy. Nope, he was asking the cutie at the coffee shop out and that was that.
He took the corner almost at a slide as he came in the door. He bounced up to the counter and asked, "Hey, where's the cute guy that was working here this morning?"
The girl behind the bar looked him up and down. "What cute guy?"
"He's about this tall," he held his hand up to his nose, "brown hair, and brown eyes."
The girl smirked as he talked and he could feel his face turning a bit pink but refused to back down. "Well, where is he?" Adam asked again, a little impatient.
"He's not here right now, took a break." Was all the information he got.
"Oh, well, I can wait." Adam said, just then his phone rang. "Hello?"
It turned out it was his mother and he couldn’t wait for the cute guy to get back.
"Damn it! Can you give him my number?" Adam wrote it down on a napkin and handed it to the girl.
"Sure." She smiled at him as he rushed out, leaving to help him mom.
Kris came back into the store, after washing his hands and stepped behind the counter.
"Some guy left this for you." Allison said, handing him the napkin.
"What guy?" Kris asked looking at the number written down.
"Tall, dark hair, really blue eyes. Hot as hell. Said he saw you this morning and wanted me to give you that." She smirked at him.
"Huh…" was all Kris said.
"Do you know him?" Allison asked with curiosity.
"Uh, yeah, I think so. It sounds like Adam. He works at the club with me." Kris said.
"Then how come he didn’t know you?"
"Err, because of how I’m dressed at work there." Kris said blushing.
Allison couldn’t help but laugh. "You mean he’s never seen you at work when you aren’t in drag."
"Uh, yeah."
Allison shook her head. "Is this the guy you talk about all the time? The cute, hot one that flirts with all the ‘girlz’?"
Kris just nodded his head.
Allison scowled at him. "So you’re telling me that he didn’t know it was you this morning and he still gave you his number? And this is the same guy who’s been flirting with you at the club for weeks?"
Kris nodded his head, his face aflame.
"You are an idiot!"
"Allison! He flirts with everyone. Doesn’t him giving some guy he doesn’t know his number prove it?"
She just rolled her eyes at him and shook her head. "Idiot! Men, they are all idiots!" She promptly ignored him for the rest of their shift.
Adam was pissed that he missed his chance to ask the cute barista out but hopefully the redhead would give the guy his number. He was tired of pining over someone who didn’t give him the time of day. Or at least he thought so until he saw Krista on stage that night…
His mouth dropped open as he stared at the sight before him. Krista’s wig was blue, electric blue, so was her underwear. She had a black mesh shirt over her sparkly bra and black leather chaps on her legs, along with a black sequined cowboy hat. She wore her signature black leather stilettos. Her makeup was perfection with her dark blue eyelids and blue painted lips. Adam was sure he was going to come just by watching her dance. Without conscious thought, he found himself toward the front of the stage, drooling. "Fuck me…" he whispered to himself.
Suddenly, as if she had known he was watching her, Krista flung her hat at him, giving him a wicked wink and a pouty lips smirk. He caught the hat and his cock went rock hard. "Holy fuck!" He returned her smirk and stuck the hat on his own head, laughing as he made his way back to the bar.
"Think you’re finally gonna ask her out now, man?" Tommy smirked at him from behind the bar.
Adam smiled, "Maybe."
Tommy snorted. "You’re an idiot if you don’t." Tommy pointed to all the men learning up at Krista as she performed. "Someone’s going to snatch her right out from under you if you don’t make a move, dude."
Adam looked around the room. It was true. Someone was going to get lucky with her soon. Krista wouldn’t hold out forever, so why shouldn’t it be him? The thought of the cute guy at the coffee shop crossed his mind, but the guy hadn’t called him and there was no guarantee that he would. He looked back toward the stage as Krista exited. ‘Fuck it!’ he decided, ‘I’m asking her out tonight.’
Krista was breathless as she left the stage. She had been spot on tonight and hot as hell; there was no doubt. She couldn’t believe that she had had the courage to flip her hat out to Adam and wink at him like that. Now she had to go retrieve her hat from that hot man. Her nerves almost got the best of her but she checked her makeup, taking congratulations from the other girls and headed out to the bar. Someone pinched her ass as she passed and she jumped with a squeak.
"Looking good pretty, can I buy you a drink?" The man leered at her crotch.
"Um,…" but before she could continue, Adam was there, glaring.
"She’s not available sir. She’s with me." Adam grabbed her arm and led her toward the bar. Once there, he looked at her with concern. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I’m good. Thanks for that." She said looking up at him through her fake lashes.
"I wanted to ask you something." Adam picked at his black nail polished and looked…nervous?
"What?"
"I wondered, you know, if you’re available, would like to, well, go out sometime?"
She felt the flush run through her body and her face heat up. "Like a date?"
Adam nodded.
"I don’t know, Adam. We work together and…"
Adam interrupted her. "I promise to be a perfect gentleman."
"I…" Krista started but she was interrupted again by Adam.
"Just think about it. I get off in an hour and we could go get coffee and just, I don’t know, talk?"
Krista looked into those blue eyes and saw the hope in them. How could she turn that down? "I’ll think about it."
Adam’s smile took her breath away. "Great. I’ll see you in an hour. Can I buy you a drink in the mean time?"
"Just some water." Krista said.
"Got it." Adam gave her wink and walked away, saying something to Brad as he passed on his way to a table with an order.
Brad came over with a bottle of water and handed it to her. "So did he finally cave and ask you out honey?"
Krista’s face bloomed red but she nodded.
"Bout time." Brad mumbled as he moved down the bar to fill another order.
Krista watched Adam from her seat at the bar as he moved through the tables and clumps of men. He smiled and flirted with most of them, made small talk and then moved on. She wondered if this was a good idea but was resolute that she would go through at least the coffee. After all, it was just coffee, right? She got an idea and made her way outside for a moment to make a call.
Adam was beside himself with excitement. He had finally asked Krista out and she had agreed to coffee. He couldn’t believe it. Maybe Tommy had been right and she was just shy. He thought back to her performance earlier in the night and still found it hard to believe. No one who moved and flirted like that could be shy. Could they?
He took a quick detour to the bathroom and his phone buzzed. He pulled it out of his pocket and didn’t recognize the number. He answered anyway.
"Hello?"
"Adam?"
Adam furrowed his brow. He didn’t recognize the voice either but it sounded somehow, familiar. "Yes, who’s this?"
"Um, you gave your number to my friend at work."
Adam’s mind being full of Krista, it took him a minute to place what the guy was talking about. And then it dawned on him. "From the coffee shop?" He asked gnawing on his bottom lip.
"Yeah, that’s me." They guy said with a laugh. "You wanted me to call?"
"Umm, yeah…" Adam was at a loss. Now what was he going to do? He had just talked Krista into coffee with him and now here was this cute guy from the coffee shop calling him. ‘Damn it!’ he thought.
"So, you wanna meet up sometime?" They guy asked.
Adam laughed nervously. "I don’t even know your name."
There was a pause and then the guy cleared his throat. "Name’s Neil."
Adam laughed for real this time. "No fucking way, that’s my brother’s name!"
Silence met him and then Neil spoke, "Ha! Yeah, funny. So, you wanna meet up sometime, have a drink?"
Adam was torn. Coffee shop guy was cute, but Krista… He made a decision, sort of. "Can I let you know?"
The guy laughed. "Sure, but you left me your number."
Adam cleared his throat. "Yes, yes I did. I’ll call you tomorrow now that I have your number."
"Sounds good. Talk to you later."
Adam didn’t even get "Bye" out before the guy hung up. "What the fuck is going on? A serious dry spell and now two hot men to pick from? Shit!" Adam hurried up in the bathroom and went back out to the bar to check on his customers and then looked around for Krista. He didn’t see her anywhere.
"Hey Brad, you seen Krista?" He asked, trying not to panic.
"Yeah, saw her go out the front door a bit ago." Brad moved back down the bar to fill a drink order.
"Shit!" Adam exclaimed just as Krista came back in. He hurried over to her. "Hey, I was worried that you had left."
Krista looked up at him with a blank face, "I think I’m going to take a rain check tonight Adam. I’m really tired." She tried not to notice the disappointment in Adam’s eyes.
"Oh, but…alright, another time then?" Adam asked.
"I don’t know, maybe." Krista turned to leave but she felt a hand on her shoulder. When she looked, it was Adam.
"What did I do to change your mind, Krista? I really want to go out with you." Adam was biting his bottom lip.
"You…I mean, well, you flirt. A lot and…I just don’t think this is a good idea."
Adam tried to not show his disappointment but he must have failed. "I get it. You aren’t in to me. I won’t bother you again. Sorry." As he walked away, he couldn’t help but feeling rejected and a little miffed. He would call Neil tomorrow, he decided, since Krista didn’t want him.
Krista watched Adam walk away, frowning. She stayed at the bar until the end of Adam’s shift and watched him leave alone despite many offers for company.
Why couldn’t she figure him out? She left the bar with a deeper frown, confused and upset.
Once home and out of the shower, Kris wiped the condensation off of the mirror and looked at himself long and hard. He wanted Adam but was Adam a player? Would it be fair to play both sides to find out? And wouldn’t that be wrong since Krista and Neil were both him?
He brushed his teeth and climbed into the bed, thinking. He formulated a plan and hoped, for once, it didn’t work. He went to sleep thinking of Adam like he did every night now.
