Ebay again

Someone tell me I'm wrong. I know I'm not, but I must be.
I bought something off ebay a few months ago, memory cards for my mom's embroidery machine so she doesn't have to keep copying things between disks. The seller recently contacted me to make sure everything was alright since I hadn't left feedback. I responded basically saying my job as buyer was done as soon as I sent payment, and if you were satisfied then you should have given me feedback first. I would normally leave feedback as soon as receiving the item, so don't see why you wouldn't have left it as soon as receiving payment, except as some kind of blackmail against negative feedback. And that's why I don't leave feedback first."
I just got the reply, paraphrased: "I use an automatic process that responds in kind as soon as it receives feedback, as most other vendors do. This is the way it is."
The way it is? You scratch my back I scratch yours? Give me good feedback and I'll give you good, but if I shaft you you'll get nothing even if there was nothing wrong with your end of the bargain. How can we trust the system at all if that's "the way it is"?
Seriously, I'm glad my biggest problems are feedback on ebay. There are worse things to complain about.

End of line.
