i don't know if it is my computer or what, but i cannot edit the base. I've tried all of the programs I have, I tried changing the file type, and nothing works. I hope this isn't the same for everyone :/

That's weird... Do you want me to try emailing it to you or something?

The base was saved as a gif - the mode is indexed color, and photoshop won't let you do much of anything to that.

Go to IMAGE > MODE and change it to RGB color, and your layers and effects will come back.

Should I be saving my bases as something else so that it's easier for you guys to edit? Usually when I'm cropping or adding text I use Animation Shop and it automatically saves it as gifs ... But I can crop it in PSP if this is a problem for people.

I don't generally enter base challanges, but speaking from a graphics standpoint, gif is generally the worst quality to save at (except for things like vector art with large areas of unshaded color, and of course animation.) jpg is fairly universal.

I am not familiar with PSP, but photoshop won't let you do much of anything to something saved with indexed color until you change the mode to RGB.

Of course, it's a simple fix, so if no one has complained you might not want to change it. I just mentioned it so you can tell people like those above how to fix the problem they were having.

Ah ok I didn't know about that because PSP is the only thing I've used really... I'll start saving them as jpgs from now on. I haven't had any complaints before this one, but I've only done maybe 5 challenges here. It could be a bigger problem than I know. Thanks for the tips!

It was weird for me too. What I did was open it in PS7 and 'Save for Web' as a .jpg I then opened a the new .jpg and was then able to work with it. Hope that helps :D
