Summer 2010 Hits: The Worst And The Best.

Sep 01, 2010 17:44

In these days plenty of channels and radio stations are doing charts for the best summer songs. Well, I don't know what are your tastes in music, but I think most of you will agree when I say that this summer we heard a lot of very bad songs. So, here's my top 5 of the worst.

California Gurls - Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg
This girl used to make pretty good hits, but this is just bad (and Snoop is not helping at all). Not to mention the fact that it's basically a rip-off of Kesha's Tik Tok (which is in turn a half-plagiarism of Uffie's The Party). The only positive thing is the hilarious music video.

Soundwaves - Angie B
I don't know who the hell she is and don't really want to, I'm just wondering why this crap became a smash hit (at least here in Italy). Songs like this are the reason why music is slowly dying. And the only thing you hear while watching the video is PLASTIC SURGERY ALL AROUND. Awful.

Hey, Soul Siter - Train
Okay, actually this song is not that bad (and I used to love Train), but for me it became unhearable just like the previous two. The reason is that heavy-rotation does bad things to easy songs, and this track has been playing everywhere for the last three months. In the long run the tune becomes tiresome and the voice of the lead singer intolerable. A nightmare.

Commander - Kelly Rowland ft. David Guetta
After trying to find her personal style, this ex-Destiny's Child apparenlty decided to ape her more-famous friend Beyoncè. To crown it all there's the omnipresent David Guetta, who's a new kind of King Midas: turns pointless songs into shit.

Rock That Body - Black Eyed Peas
I don't think I have to explain why this is here. The song speaks for itself. Just tell Black Eyed Peas that they're not Daft Punk and that helium voice is not cool unless it is on Technologic.

On the other hand, just because I don't like to be too pessimistic, there are a bunch of songs released this summer that I liked. It was difficult to find five of them, but here they are.

Wonderful Life - Hurts
The song is hypnotic and catchy, the band is young, talented and with a certain musical background (it is clear that they listen a lot to Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys). It's quality pop like we haven't heard in years, although is heavy-rotating on MTV.

Je Veux - Zaz
What a nice tune! I love the way french sounds in songs, it's such an elegant language! The lyrics are beautiful, she is spontaneous and her singing is full of life. Perfect for summer mood.

2nd Streets Have No Name - The Bloody Beetroots feat. Beta Bow
People often think that house and electronic music are the same thing. They couldn't be more wrong, and this is the living proof. Bloody Beetroots are two of the few young Italian musicians (yes, DJs are musicians too) that I'm proud of and this song is pure poetry. Listen without prejudices.

Fader - The Temper Trap
This song is heavy-rotating basically everywhere, though I love it. I like the music these guys make, they've got so much energy! The track reminds me of some great 90's hits (like You Only Get What You Give and It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane), they're singing their heart out like New Radicals and The Ark did. Hope this won't be their one-hit wonder!

Pala Tute - Gogol Bordello
Everything Eugene Hütz does is Gospel for me. Their last album got some bad reviews, I haven't listen to it entirely yet, but you cannot hate a record that contains this brilliant piece of art! The chorus gets stuck in your head (in a good way) and you just can't stay on your seat while listening to it. Already a classic.

So, now is your turn. What are the song of the moment that you hate the most? Have you discovered something worth listening among the new artists? Let me know. (:
