Band Rocks Cat

Recently, I had the priviledge of playing Rockband for the XBox 360.  All I can say is that THIS is what video games are supposed to be like.  I spent most of my time behind the drumkit, and while I found the visual cues a little hard to understand, it did feel like I was actually playing drums.  I had more luck with the higher skill levels, as the low ones featured me playing a lot of notes that were in the soundtrack but not the score, being docked for doing so, and swearing loudly.  While I find Guitar Hero's guitar playing to be smoother, this one wins out for the four-man-band experience.  Plus customization.  You can edit your avatar as much as you like, as opposed to using a mere 10 or so static characters in GH.

Sadly, Rock Band might end up being the closest I get to playing in an actual rock band for a while.  I was unhappy about the rest of the band's decision to award joint authorship on all of my songs.  I just thought it was a common sense thing; I wrote the music, lyrics, and basic structure before I even brought them in, I should be able to use them later should the band split up for any reason (Such as one player chafing at being ordered about, for example).   It's such a silly little thing and I'm sorry it came to that, but I really didn't like what it portended and everyone else was bafflingly unsympathetic to my side.  E-mails have been exchanged.  The fat lady is singing.

And as proof that you can't keep a good man down, I have an audition for another band on Thursday.  I'll let all interested parties know how that turns out, but it's on bass guitar.  I have yet to fail an audition on bass guitar, as (with all humility, something a bassist needs) I play it pretty damn decently.  Though I suppose there's a first time for everything.  Anyway.

In more important news, a new cat has moved into our house.  Well, a new roommate moved in and brought the cat with him, but still.  Her name is Static, and she is great.  When Miles, the new roomy, is home, she follows him around like a little dog.  Just today, I knelt down to pet her and she just jumped into my lap, did her little cat "get-comfy" dance, and plopped down for a nap.  And she doesn't bite or hiss, as certain ex-cats/hamsters have been known to do.
