Some things don't change

Most families "recommend" that we (the next generation) should marry within our race. I know that my parents prefer our own kind. One night, my dad, sis and I were watching "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", a movie about a Greek woman who falls in love with a non-Greek and struggles to get her family to accept him. Anyway, my dad told me to "never do that to him". Haha, not to fall in love with a non-Greek? That shouldn't be too difficult. Anyway, i knew what he really meant. Call it tradition, pride (over what? haha jk.), or old-fashioned values. I dont know. I guess I can somewhat respect where he's coming from, but at the same time, I dont want to. For me, all i know is that I value other factors (more important matters) other than race. It makes me kind of sad that even though we live in a "diverse" society, some people can't accept their people intermingling with other races. I grew up learning to "accept" everyone. (Hello, the Catholic Church teaches that!!!!) But I won't ramble on about religion. It's also funny how some people can accept their children having friends of different backgrounds, but when it comes to having relationships with them, their attitudes change. I'm confuzzled..so confuzzled.

Anyway, no being sad...it's not like marriage is on the way, and it's being forbidden. shet.
