Something about my friends' apartment makes me very sleepy. I think it's the dim, yellow lighting and bright monitors. Or it could be the hour, who knows.
Anyway, I now have a domain and forum software. Now all I need to do is research how to integrate phpBB into an entire website, find or create style sheets, etc. etc. etc. Every time I get something done, more stuff appears. But it's interesting stuff. So on to research! Well... Not right now. For now, sleep and character gen-ing. So far James the most eligible bachelor and Daley the helpful bartender are pretty finished, just gotta work on the shaman.
Edit: I need to never post at their house, my brain doesn't work properly there. Anyway, technology goals. I should hopefully be able to get XP in the next couple of days, and if so I can finally clean out and reinstall my computer on Friday. Then I can move all of my old files over, reinstall everything, clear off my external HD, and name my computer. And at some point I'll find Office 2003. (Why is it more expensive than 2007? Ah well.) Or 2007. I hear it's good once you use it a bit. And at some point next week I shall buy an mp3 player. Because my by-then-newly-named computer should not be forced to be an mp3 player.
In tech goals that more people might care about, I'm spending most of my free time at work researching phpBB3 and ways to fully integrate it into a site. Thus having a login for the site be the same as the login for the forum, etc. And avoiding having a perfectly normal-looking site with an ugly forum smack dab in the middle of it. (I dislike the basic phpBB templates.) So far I've found various references to guides which tutorial you through various complicated file editing things, and I've also heard that Joomla 1.5 has an app which will connect to phpBB3 in that way for you. I'd like to avoid more software, but I'd also like to avoid editing files, so I'm still looking for specifics on either.
Assuming I get the basic framework worked out, there's still styling, figuring out how to disable all emoticons forever, dealing with settings, actually building the forum, and writing/adding all the rest of the content. So on the one hand, won't be done anytime soon. On the other hand, I'm actually working on it. Now, if any people out there have experience with said issues, help'd be shiny. Not necessary if no one is able to or wants to, but shiny. Jumping from a single pure-HTML website several years ago to a software-heavy overly-picky-about-formatting site with already three different GUI interfaces and four different login screens (Dreamhost, Google Apps, phpBB, and MySQL) is an interesting leap.
