Notes: Prompt #1 Pharaoh

.1. Pharaoh

“Once, long ago on Earth there was a king who ruled over a country called Egypt which was dry and hot and full of sand. The Egyptian people called him their Pharaoh.”

“Like Captain?”

“Yes, like Captain,

“The Pharaoh was a young man, but serious unlike others his age. He’d been raised to become the next Pharaoh and that is a serious thing. The pressures of a country needing his guidance made him seem strong and emotionless. But because he was so unlike regular people his subjects feared him, and even his servants were afraid to speak to him. As a result the Pharaoh was very lonely, and longed to be accepted by his people without compromising how he was raised to behave as their king.

Among the people who he ruled was a young woman who had traveled far seeking work of any kind, promising her understanding nature and ability to speak many of the languages that she had encountered in her travels. Soon she was taken into the palace to work, able to communicate easily with all of the foreign visitors within and provide for them what they desired, food water and other things that the other servants did not understand.

The Pharaoh noticed the young woman’s talents, and her beauty although her skin was dark and foreign to him. Similarly, the woman found the Pharaoh not nearly as terrifying as the other servants had made him out to be. Instead he was just unspoken, his eyes dark but readable beneath his straight cut hair. He looked sad she thought, sad and lonely much of the time, looking placidly out over his people as they laughed and talked together.

So the servant began to speak to him. She asked him what he would like to eat, how he should wish to dress although she among the other servants already knew the Pharaoh’s preferences. Slowly, a friendship bloomed between them, one of careful words and discussion of how the country was fairing. They had to keep their companionship quiet though, if any of the Pharaoh’s advisors were to find him keeping the company of a servant she would be taken away and he would no longer be able to be the Pharaoh.

Despite these dangers, the servant and the Pharaoh fell in love, a great and timeless love that broke the ideas of who should love whom and why and when. It was true and it was pure. “

“ And they lived happily ever after?”

“ Well, Egypt was taken by the Romans, and many of the Pharaoh’s people and even his mother were killed… as his heart broke for them and he struggled to stay strong the servant was there to mend his heart and to love him unconditionally. She thought maybe she wouldn’t replace those people he’d lost but to provide a new love to fill the space and ease the pain of their passing.

Because of this loyalty she showed the young woman was made a princess, and she and the Pharaoh married and were together at last to live happily ever after.”

Uhura looked down to see her daughter asleep at last, and happily began to extricate her limbs from that of the slumbering infant. Once she was settled into her bed properly Uhura smoothed her curls away from her face and tucked them behind her delicately pointed ear with a smile.

A kiss was pressed to her temple and soft wishing of sweet dreams followed before she finally stood and turned to the door only to jump startled upon being confronted with a figure standing in the doorway.

“You scared the hell out of me!” She hissed at him as she pushed him into the main living area, the door to their daughter’s room closed with a woosh behind them.

“I did not intend to startle you, I apologize,” Spock spoke softly although their daughter could not hear them with the door closed.

“ How long were you watching for?” Uhura asked leading the way to their bedroom across the family sized quarters.

“ I heard most of the story you chose to tell her. I noticed that although many surface descriptive elements were altered, the key components to the story were quite similar to our relationship when it was first founded.” He said following her dutifully, “ Did you intend for Cassiopeia to pick up on this parallel?”

Uhura smiled at him over her shoulder.

“ No, it’s just a story, Spock. I tell her different variations of a few common fairy tales every night. She complains the least and falls asleep the fastest when I tell her our story, or something similar. I think she likes the realism of it all, how it doesn’t end perfectly, but close to it.”

“ It is Illogical for a child of her age and development to be comforted by less than perfection.” He pulled off his blue science uniform shirt while she sat on the bed to unzip her boots, “ Furthermore, I hope you do not think I was as lonely or saddened as you expressed the Pharaoh to initially be.”

“ Uh-huh, okay,” She pulled her hair to the front of her person and began reaching around to unzip her dress but he intercepted her and pulled the zip for her.

“ I take it you do not believe me,” he said softly behind her.

“ I think that Cassie is too young to understand if I tried to explain my motivations to seduce you into a relationship for purposes completely inappropriate for someone her age.” Uhura replied coyly over her shoulder.

“ I see. You substituted emotions to create motivation of an innocent nature in an attempt not over exploit her innocence.”

“ Yes, that’s it,” Uhura slipped into bed tiredly, turning on her side and pulling the blankets up to her cheek.

“ Are you just… humoring me?” He finished undressing and joined her under the covers.

“ Never,” She yawned and turned to look at him, “ Now shut up, kiss me and sleep.” She offered her upturned face to him, which he obliged in pecking a kiss to her lips and ordering the lights off. They settled together waiting for sleep.

“ I was not sad,” he murmured after a few minutes sure she had dropped off into a sound sleep.

“ Yes you were.”
