It's so weird to me that even after reading the tear-jerkers you've written, and even when I know that what I'm about to read is going to be sad and make me cry like a fool sitting at my computer...I still make the conscious decision to read it anyway.

I guess it's a testament to the brilliance of your writing. Yes, it's usually centered around a really sad event, but it doesn't matter, because by the time the sad part comes, you've shown us how beautiful the person was before they were taken away, and just how deeply he loved and was loved back. So the pain at the sad part was worth it, because you had the beauty first.

To me, it's like when my dog died, and I was devastated beyond belief and thought I'd die from the pain. I said I'd never have another dog, because I couldn't stand the thought of going through that pain again. But, as time went on, I missed having a dog, and the pain had become more of just an ache in my heart. So, I got another dog, because having a dog is love and fun and joy and something I didn't want to live without.

This is my fucked-up, crazy analogy, but I think it works: Reading something written by heroes and cons is like having a dog: You'll experience beauty and love, and then have your heart ripped out of your fucking chest. Somehow it will all have been worth it.
