Salsa Reflections

Yesterday evening’s salsa adventure was absolutely delightful and I loved every minute. I’m still floating on a residual high this morning! What a brilliant way to start a rainy morning. Absolutely loving my good mood at the moment, have even got a salsa album queued up on Spotify playing in the background. Couldn’t have enjoyed last night any more. FH noticed my 'transformation' and we had a good chat about it. He said I looked "really, very radiant" RADIANT I tellya!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness. He also noticed my earrings, the new wardrobe (commented by saying that last time he saw me I was rockin’ the Converse, hoodies and baggy jeans whereas yesterday I was wearing the ruffled black skirt with an “I Love London” t-shirt, patterned tights and heels), and the new hairdo. Was really nice dancing with him too. After the class the music was still playing so we continued to dance and he twirled me round on the dancefloor saying that every time he twirled me round, my eyes lit up. It was all heart-warming and fluttery. There’s something quite special about being twirled around on a dancefloor by a lovely strong bloke. The whole evening was really wonderful and I’m very much looking forward to meeting him for lunch today. He danced a bit with my friend Marian too but stepped on her toes! Thankfully he avoided crushing my toes but I didn’t escape altogether because Paul (Buddy-Holly-alike) stepped on me once. Ouch!

At first I was beginning to wonder if I’d made a horrible mistake by bringing FH because when the introduction/beginner moves were being taught, he adopted this frog-like wide-legged stance and starting swaying his torso from side to side. But the teacher encouraged all of us to take much smaller steps, keeping our feet closer together, covering less ground, going for precision rather than speed and after that he really started to get the hang of it. Creepy short balding Roger was there and sadly I had to dance with him a little bit but mostly I managed to avoid him. *shudder*

The class ended at 8.30ish but we continued dancing until 9pm and John the teacher watched with what was almost pride while we enjoyed the magic of salsa, trying out all the moves we’d just learned with huge smiles on our faces. My friend Marian also continued dancing because she’d partnered up with Paul who was the biggest pro of the four of us who stayed on after the class, having been salsa-ing for a few years. I felt young and alive, girly and gorgeous, and wrapped up in a little cloud of delight. Once the evening was finally over and it was time to say goodbye at the bus stop he actually hugged me twice and thanked me a few times for “such a really great night out. I had such a great time and really enjoyed it.”. Awww, gawd bless him.

It’s a shame that I’ll miss the next two classes in this course but I don’t want to miss Science Museum Lates and going dancing on my birthday isn’t really an option seeing as I’ve already got other plans. I am, however, resolved and determined to attend a full run of the next class. Hopefully I’ll find a nice hunky bloke to take with me as well, it’s far better when you don’t get partnered up with a total random right from the start. Plus experiences like this are always best enjoyed with a good friend I think.

FH and I swapped books yesterday. He’s made a “Season One” journal of his experiences at Uni and I felt honoured that he let me read it. I took it home yesterday evening and will be returning it to him today. The book I gave him is my battered A5 signatures book which people have left me messages in over the years, it started out as my leaving book for year 11 at school, then I took to college and even got a few uni friends to sign it at the end of 1st year. The idea is that he’ll have written something nice in it for me which I can read when I get it back today. I opened his journal when I got home last night and was absolutely gripped for the next half hour or so. It was never intended for an audience so it’s written with brutal honesty and I feel like I’ve got to know a whole ‘nother side of FH! There’s a lot in there about the girl he’s seeing; and there are event some real-life plot twists that had me literally gasping in shock while I read them. He’s got some pretty striking similarities to me too. There’s also some amazing inspirational words in there which made me think about things on a pretty deep level. As Keanu Reeves would say : “Whoaaaaa!”.
