Romeo was getting married.
Romeo was getting married, and maybe it wasn't the first time but it was the first time he understood what he was doing.
Perhaps that was why it was the first time he'd been nervous.
He paced around the
spot on the beach that would be their chapel in his bare feet and wedding suit, occasionally pausing to make small

The bride was busy putting the finishing touches on her hair and obi, fussing until Miho came to get her.
//You're going to be late for your own wedding, Yuri-hime,// Miho teased, and Yurika stuck her tongue out at the older hunter.
"Nyyyyyah. A bride is never late. But I suppose we should get this started, ne?"]
Reply
He barely heard Balthasar congratulating him on his luck; all he saw was his bride, and he beamed as she came toward him.

Yurika walked down the sand to stand beside him, Miho at her elbow. "Eh, it's not too late to back out, Montague-kun," she stage-whispered. "If you want to spend your days wooing ladies on the beach."

The priest -- who had married many young couples on the beach, and was not the most patient of men by nature -- cleared his throat and opened the book of vows as a symbol he, at least, was ready to begin.
"Romeo Montague and and Yurika Dojima," he began loudly, "have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?"
Reply
"I'll just have to break hearts by having a husband," she hissed, tossing him a wink.
"Hai!" was her answer to the priest, giving a quick perfunctory bow, and Miho barely managed to stifle a laugh.
Oh, right, she was pretending to be Catholic. Ish. Catholic-ish for today.
"I mean yes."

She'd pretend to be Catholic, he'd pretend to speak English instead of Veronaish; it all worked out.
The priest smiled, pleased things were falling into line. "And will you honor each other as husband and wife for the rest of your lives?"
This time, Romeo's "yes" came almost before he was done.
Reply
"Aye, I do," Yurika answered, keeping a completely straight face.
VERONAESE CATHOLIC. It was totally a thing, and behind her Miho was raising an eyebrow at Balthazar in the 'are we sure letting them do this without adult supervision was a good idea?' manner.
Nevermind that Miho was an adult, at least as far as Doji-kun was concerned.
Reply
"Since it is your intention to enter into marriage" -- and the priest was beginning to sound like he thought they might need extra adult supervision, too -- "join your right hands, and declare your consent before God and his Church."
At this, Romeo became more serious. "I, Romeo, take you, Yurika, to be my wife," he said, and was very proud of himself for not stumbling over the words due to emotion or forgetfulness. "I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life."

Yurika slipped her hand into his with a smile. "I, Dojima Yurika, take you, Romeo, to be my husband," she said in a loud, clear voice. "I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life."
Reply
"You have now consented to be wed," he said. "And what God has joined, man must not divide. You may now kiss."
Romeo turned toward Yurika, a sly and expectant smile on his face. As far as God and the law were concerned, he was now properly wed.

Miho walked over to a tray with six sake cups, two of each size, and picked up the tokkuri, her palms turned down. She carefully poured in to each of the ochoko before setting it aside, picking up the tray, and presenting it the newlyweds with a bow.

Dōjima bowed in return, reaching to raise the smallest ochoko to her lips twice, finally drinking on the third time. The medium size was next, then the large, and Miho took the tray away once they were both finished.
Yurika reached for his hands again impishly. "Now we can kiss, Signore Montague."
Reply
His mouth still tasted of sake.
Reply
This was why all good weddings should have sake. Tasty kisses.
Yurika even managed to do a mostly-chaste kiss. Because, well, priest, and Miho would kick the back of her legs if she started making out with Romeo during the wedding.

"Thank you," he said, when they came apart.
Reply
"You aren't done yet," she chided, bumping him with her elbow to turn back to the priest. "I still want my jewelry."
