Just made this sauce because I'm attempting to use up every last bit of food in our apartment before going grocery shopping. We have quite a bit of pasta, but no more pasta sauce. Diced tomatoes are close enough, right? I was surprised that this actually turned out really well and I think I actually prefer it to most of the pre-made sauces I've tried. The butter helps cut the acidity of the tomatoes, so there's no tinny flavor.
Ingredients:
1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes
1 6 oz can of tomato paste
2 T butter
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1 clove of garlic, minced
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan (I sloshed a little water in the cans to get everything out). Simmer over medium-low heat for about 15-20 minutes.
Ta-da--tomato sauce. Noms.
