I always sing my little Sadiqua the same song each night for a week before I leave for a sailing trip. When she was smaller - when our father had very recently died, sometimes the song made her cry, but never me. She had to learn about wanting to stay, but needing to leave. She had to learn that I would always return to her side with the turning of the leaves.

What a promise I have broken to her.

Tonight, for the first time, Sadiqua's song brings tears to my eyes.

Sweetheart. If you're out there at all, my message will find you. I pray to every god I know for your safety. If you are still in this world, I will find you. If not - I wish you back to your home, and to happiness every night.

But I will not stop looking for you until I'm certain you're in a better place. I swear to that.
