I've been mostly ignoring the brouhaha over the user info page changes...

(Not because I like the proposed new stuff, but because I'm too lazy to pay attention. Go me, or something like that.)

But anyway, I'm seeing talk on my friends list to the effect that things on the business side of LJ are driven by numbers (which makes sense)... and the numbers indicate that the average LJ user is a female teenager. As a result, TPTB are gearing their design, etc., to teenagers.

Now, obviously I'm not average (far from it), and neither is the makeup of my friends list, but it also seems pretty obvious that *ahem* more mature LJ users are less likely to put down their age in their user info, because we're not here to try to hook up, or because we don't like to talk about our ages, or whatever.

Well, there may be some benefit to 'fessing up. It only takes a few seconds to click here and enter your full month, date, and YEAR of birth. You can uncheck the "Show your birthday to other users" box if you don't want God and everybody to know how old you really are.

With overall user numbers in the millions, I don't know if we can get enough people changing their info to make any change in LJ's bell curve, but it can't hurt, right? And the more people who spread the word, the better.
