Chez Henri avec Mama

May 15, 2008 21:56

I took my Mum to Chez Henri tonight as a belated Mother's Day present, and spent a good two hours drinking wine and rum cocktails and listening to her stories about when she was my age, and the adventures she's had all over the world, and the romances she had before my dad, and what their marriage is REALLY like, and what it's like to be a mom.

I take her for granted. Most of the time, I look at her and I think: suburban, stay-at-home mother. Drives a gas-guzzler. Has a bouncy haircut. Shops at Trader Joe's and makes chicken 5 nights out of 7.

I forget that she's a person, and a kick-ass one at that.

Love you, Mama.
