seeing as i had some spare time today, i've given this challenge a go.
Somewhere, in the back of some place, not too far from the front, sits a man. A simple man; plain of face, fair of hair, pale of eye, and olive of skin. He sits there staring, with his pale eyes, at a spot on the wall. A spot that has been growing larger with the hours. The man is not entirely sure how the spot came to be, all he remembers is a bright spot of red suddenly appearing on the wall. He tried rubbing it off, but all that achieved was a large rouge smear across his palm which did not please him. He frowned. Though it was not unusual for odd things to happen, the man simply did not agree that they should happen to him. He would like to think he was just a victim of circumstance, but he knew better than that. He sighed. It was going to be one of those days.
Bleep bleep! Bleep bleep!
The man turned his attention from the spot to the phone. He frowned again. It was about to begin, he could just feel it. Those days always seemed to begin the same way: an odd happenstance in the back, not too far from the front, then the phone will ring. He wished he could believe that today wasn't one of those days, but there were too many pings. Perhaps if he'd paid more attention to the pings when he woke this morning, he could have avoided the situation he was about to get into.
Bleep bleep! Bleep bleep!
He sighed. What if he were to just ignore it? Could he change it from one of those days into a regular everyday kind of day? The sort of day he beloved for it's sheer simplicity. He sniffed and rubbed his hand across the already apparent stubble on his cheeks.
Bleep bleep! BLEEP BLEEP!
No. Clearly, whoever was on the other end of the line wanted him to answer. He took a deep breath and hoped he would be able to survive whatever was in store for him, and with a forlorn tone, answered the phone....
