Allow me to weave for you a yarn, a tale, or a ballad if you’d prefer.  This story is of a man, his class and calibre were unmatched by any other.  His goal was to save all that he came into contact with, the world if he could.  His doctrine was his own; his faith in the good of all was unyielding.  This golden prince was warned from an early age, safeguard himself from love.  He would lose his destiny in the face of his personal desires.  Mystics, priests, and rune readers alike agreed on this fact.  Their voices echoed in plural unison, love would bring the downfall of the golden prince.

One day the prince met a lovely witch.  He’d been warned that witches, wizards and the like were evil.  He’d always refused to believe that there was good in all those around him.  The witch was not hard to find good in; she had a dark loveliness to her and the voice of an angel.  The prince found that around her he felt different, lighter than air he could skim across the ground.

Together they did great things; she was kind in spirit and deed.  Those she was around were changed and benefited just by association.  He steeled himself wondering if he could fight the inevitable.  His fears ballooned into unspoken terror as he knew that which had been foreseen would come true.  No longer could he deny what was happening to him.

The witch knew something was wrong with her dear friend.  Worried for him, wished to help him but he pushed her farther and farther away.  The witch forelorn wept for the loss of her friend, the good man she’d come to know, care about and secretly… deep down dare to love.  Unable to stay any longer the witch slipped away into the darkness setting out to find others who were in need.

No longer golden the prince’s faith had waned.  He’d feared having her around but gone it was even worse.  The prince realized that the witch had left for good reason but she had taken with her his heart.  He had taken advice from others, heeded their bidding.  The man who had believed there was good in everyone, believed in his own principles and lifestyles followed his own doctrine, found himself spending his whole life listening to other.  He had been suckled on gossip his whole life.  He had not believed in the evil of others and yet he had thrown away his desires.

The prince set off to find his witch.  Seeing her again he felt his heart soar.  He confessed to her of his love, desire and acceptance of his fate no matter what it may be.  The prince, a prince no longer, fell into darkness.  The admiration for him that had been felt was gone as the removed him from the pedestal they’d put him on.  The seers had been right the prince fell to love but emerged the happiest man who ever walked.

This is the tale of a golden prince who lost his heart and found his fate…
