Spock did not let the doctor touch him, retreating into solitude; it was easy to escape when McCoy was too busy trapping their Acting Captain. McCoy had let him go.
Doctor's Diagnosis: Unknown toxin, plant origin.
It was the first time he learned that Dr. McCoy's not-entirely-regulation hyposprays turned his stomach. He had no choice but to allow the man to hold his shoulders as he wretched into a disposal bin. Neither of them spoke of it afterwards.
It also marked the first time that Spock realised he could trust him, when it came to the important things.
Doctor's Diagnosis: Electrical burns, whiplash, bruising.
Spock could not refuse a direct order from his Captain to stay still, though he wanted to get to work on the repairs as soon as possible. The doctor was cussing at his Vulcan heritage, his tendency to get harmed, his ears, every personality trait that seemed distasteful to his human upbringing -
And Spock finally discovered it was worry that caused him to spout such things.
Dr. McCoy never figured out why his Vulcan patient was cooperative, for once.
Doctor's Diagnosis: Boredom, argumentative state, wish to have his precious Vulcan pride wounded.
There was no logical reason to be in sickbay, and Dr. McCoy had informed him of that ten point three minutes ago. As it stood, he had neither made a move to leave, nor had the doctor made another attempt to kick him out. Their conversation had started with a simple exchange of greetings that had morphed into a heated philosophical debate on the merits of Vulcan logic versus human emotion, and had somehow ended in an appointment for dinner.
Spock was not sure who was more surprised by the time they parted ways, but he found himself looking forward to the evening, all the same.
