So I'm about 10 episodes into the first season of Avatar. Yes, I'm referring to the kids show that runs on Nickelodeon. Somehow, I haven't made time for Heroes, I never seem to catch up with Eureka or Dead Like Me and I didn't watch a lot of 24 even though Andy watched all 6 seasons back to back, but I make time for something from Nickelodeon. Because it's just that good.

I mean, the writing is excellent. It has that kind of humor that appeals to kids and also the subtle stuff that no one under the age of 16 is really going to notice. It doesn't shy away from dealing with death, betrayal, and the ruthlessness of revenge, while at the same time keeping things light enough to not be completely depressing by the end of the show. And, well, it has a strong connection to various forms of chinese martial arts, to a point where I saw something and thought, "That looks like Bagua," and then found out that it's because it was supposed to be Bagua and they taught enough to the animators to make drawing it all that much more convincing. The water stuff is Chen style Tai Chi (My preference is for Yang style, but it's pretty close), making it very pretty to watch and letting me play a nice guessing game whenever I see any of it in action.

Also, there is a lemur. His name is Momo.

It's good. Watch it. If you have to, pretend that you're watching it with your kids. Or your pets. Whatever.
