So, brand new community, huh? What a great idea. I'm almost 100% Supernatural oriented where fandom is concerned, but I have read several SPN w/daemons lately and most of them have been wonderful. Somehow the concepts just fit, and the writers are doing great things with them.

That being said, this fic of yours is lovely. All the unsaid among the Winchesters, echoed (if you can used such a word for what is mostly silence) by their daemons. Except for Adelaide, and what a fascinating idea to use Adelaide to reflect the way John is torn about the life he is giving his sons. John's daemon arguing with him is the perfect metaphor for how at odds with himself John really was.

I liked Lucinda a lot, too. Solitary, practical, a bit of a misanthrope. It would be interesting to wind this tale forward to see how Lucinda changes as Bobby becomes more attached to the Winchester boys over time.

I didn't really like His Dark Materials that much on the whole, but I loved the idea of daemons. There is something, I think, innately ( ... )

Yes indeed! Daemons are the one thing in any fantasy novel I've read that I've desperately wished were real. This variety of AU is the kind of fic I'm always on the lookout for, and I have to say, I read "Malleus Maleficarum" and was completely blown away. I'm easily persuadable in that mindset, so thus the community was born.

I think Supernatural is great for lending itself to daemons, not just because of the metaphysical topic of the show (oh man, listen to me!), but also because there's such a strong animalistic ethic to the characters themselves. Hunting is by its very nature something that brings out the elemental in people, and so much of what we see on the show is so raw. Your point about the loneliness must also figure in, I imagine.

All of which is to say thank you so much for your thoughtful comments, and the wonderful feedback. Your idea about Lucinda is definitely intriguing -- I may have to take you up on the proposition. Glad to have you on board!

This was lovely and really kind of heartbreaking. I've read a few SPN/HDM crossovers, and I'm always intrigued by how people interpret the various characters' daemons-this fic didn't disappoint. I like the contrast between John and Adelaide, and the partnership between Bobby and Lucinda, and the various transitions that the boys' daemons go through. Beautiful work!

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments! Daemons are such a marvelous conceit, and I hope this community really gets people playing with them, because I love watching the results.

Thank you! I'll probably keep writing with this set of daemons (it's so much work figuring them out!) -- if you're interested, I've done two drabbles here. (I'm about to head off to sleep, and your icon makes me all cheery. Dean!)

Oh, I love this. It's such a quiet story, but there's so much going on underneath, emotionally -- wonderful.

Thank you so much! I've always wished we had more of an idea of how the daemons of parents and children interact, and there's so much shorthand that can happen there too.
