When Damon decides to leave town, he leaves. There are no tearful goodbyes. No last looks. He leaves a single note, and it’s for Klaus:

Come and get it.

This is the part he can play; this is how he saves her. The moonstone is heavy in his pocket. He drives faster than he should.

Klaus will find him; Klaus will kill him. But, if he can run fast enough, long enough, it will be too late for spells, for breaking curses. He will buy her time.

He’ll make Klaus hunt him. He can do this.

It’s only a lifetime.
