Quote:
A moment was the most you could ever expect from perfection.
(Fight Club ; pg 33)
Lesson: A moment is the most you can ever expect from perfection.
Interpretation: Perfection is a rare occurrence. It is something many strive for, reach for, attempt to gain, and is, at times, a seeming impossible goal. But, on the rare occasion that perfection is actually achieved, it is almost always fleeting. Once we’ve gained it, we either move on to something else or it gets ruined somehow. It is not as special as we thought it would be, not as perfect. The grass is always greener.
Expecting perfection to last, expecting anything as perfect as perfection to last, is unrealistic. Good things come and go. Friendships, relationships, victories, moments. The lesson here is the it is best to try and enjoy them for what they are, and when they fade (because, in general, they will always fade), it is best to accept it, to move on to the next moment. To just be happy that, once, for one single moment, something was perfect.
