Sunlight fills every corner of his room. Stefan’s beside him, Elena is in his arms and the world is perfect.

Before long they’re tangled up in sheets, in each other. Together. Safe. He is warm and loved and content; he could swear his heart was beating.

Everything as it should be.

Lurking in the darkness, Katherine reaches out, traces Damon's jaw lightly with her fingertip, marvels at his faint smile; it’s boyish, one she’d not seen in over a hundred years. {Not since she gleefully, mercilessly, tore him apart.}

With one last look, she leaves him to his pretty dreams.
