I am sitting here watching our collared doves as they build a new nest in one of our lilac trees right in front of this window! They are such devoted birds and come back every year, but this is the first year the nest has been built in our garden! The female is sitting at the nest site and the male keeps flying back to her with straw in it's mouth that he must have got from under the rabbit hutches. The doves spend hours sitting on our washing line preening one another. Such lovely birds! So pretty soon we will be hearing the calls of yet more baby birds! And on that same subject, I am a bit concerned about our blue tit babies. When they first hatched they were as noisy as hell, but this week all has been pretty quiet, even when the parent birds go into the box. I am wondering if the first clutch died? There are no tell-tale signs of that though, no bodies on the ground, although if they had fallen either the magpies or the rats would have taken them off. Maybe the parents are trying again? I guess time will tell. At least the house-martins are doing well. The arrived early this year and half-built the nest, then we had a cold snap in early May and they disappeared for a couple of weeks, but now they are back and have finished rebuilding the nest. So pretty soon we will be hearing their babies yelling for food! I love it!
Got a bit of painting done yesterday! First time in ages. Just 'played' a bit really, no real plan as to what to paint, just went with the flow, but I am pretty pleased with what I came up with!
Crystaline Visions
The Ruins of Arcturus
Trapped
The Sorceress She just sort of 'appeared' in the wax as I played. All I did was develop what was there. I am very pleased with this one!
And finally, a couple of rather more structured paintings.
Gone Fishin'!
This is an A3 sized painting I did over about 3 days last week. Wanted to do something with a Japanese 'feel' to it. I am sure Marc will tell me where I went wrong though, but I am happy enough with the finished painting. I got it all framed up as well and it looks really good, so I might just put this one into the next exhibition!
Geisha
So there you are...a good few days work!
Today it's back to the mundane things. Got to take Tom shopping for trainers, which I think he is quite looking forward to. I promised he could go to the library to get some DVDs out if he behaves himself. Tomorrow is a 'treat' day (if the weather is OK, at any rate!) I said I'd take the kids to the zoo. Not been there for about a year. I just hope it doesn't rain, though I won't hold my breath.
It looks pretty murky today!
