Day 2...surreal life

Dec 18, 2019 22:34

I slept like the dead after everything. Kitty was still having a hard time too. I felt like I'd been run over with a dump truck. I think every bone, joint, muscle, and nerve hurt. I don't remember anything else causing as much pain. It was brutal. Artemis wouldn't have anything to do with anyone except me and I knew she was mad at me. What had I done to her?

Terry took the day off of work because we had been up so late the night before. Terry's mom was nice enough to help me get the U-Haul returned. I followed her to the drop off place. The U-Haul place is over near Fremont street. So if you don't know, that area of town isn't only difficult to navigate but it is also under construction.

I was driving the U-Haul truck with the car trailer behind. We'd already taken my car off the trailer. We left the condo with directions in Google on my phone for me and directions programmed into her car GPS. We decided we would drive down the street and turn on Viking, as per Google. We started down the road and the road was under construction. So as the road narrowed with cones, I felt like I was back in driver's education, trying not to hit them. As we got near the intersection of Flamingo, Terry's mom passed me (she was supposed to FOLLOW me to the U-Haul place) and honks. I look over and she motions for me to turn on Flamingo. Uh...how the hell do I do that with the U-Haul, trailer, and every car flying past me? I do finally get over to turn but with a lot more anxiety than I already had from my journey the day before.

Several times we lost one another and I needed to stop for gas on the way there too. Of course I had no idea where I was going and where Terry's mom would disappear to. At a stop light I looked up a gas station and just took a chance on us meeting up afterwards. To my surprise, she actually found me before I left the gas station. I still have no idea how that happened.

We got to the U-Haul return and they were so nice. The manger was extra nice. He rounded down my extra amount (due to returning it a day later, as aforementioned) and gave my mother-in-law a roll of tape. It was such a pleasant experience after my ordeal and a great welcome to Las Vegas.

The rest of the day was spent talking with Terry's mom, settling in a little bit, and hoping that Artemis wouldn't hate me forever.

I was assured that Terry was happy to have me here. I had so much worry and anxiety over the trip. Part of me worried that I would get here and Terry wouldn't be glad I was here. It was a big leap after the ordeal of almost getting divorced, getting back together, then uprooting my entire life. I was truly scared to death to make this move. It was shaping up to be a good choice and what else was I gonna do?
