Character
Please note: This character is a companion character to shred_the_sky and closely tied to him. So, yes, there is permission (more like Nemo goaded me into this last minute) for him to be included in her history.
Name: Saya Wielant
Gender: Female
Age: Physical and mental: 19-20, Chronological is unknown due to the state their universe is currently in.
Wing Color: Light gray
Physical Appearance Saya is a slim young woman with long blond hair she keeps pulled back and a penchant for fluffy white dresses trimmed with black and gold, and a white top hat decorated with a gold ribbon. Her grimoire containing her spell-verses is chained to one wrist. This she keeps in her top hat, which she tends to shrink down so that it merely looks like she is wearing a bracelet with a charm resembling a top hat. The chain itself is rather strong, making it nearly impossible to separate the grimoire from its owner.

Her PB is Cyrille from Shining Force EXA.
History: Once upon a time, seven centuries or more ago, there lived a lone witch. Now, the witch knew the love of her family, but she knew nothing of friends. This was fine by her, if lonely. She did not mind. Her family and their garden of golden flowers were enough people to call her own. Everything else she could fill in with the books she loved so and, while she tended to favor tales of heroes in far away lands, she was willing to read anything she got her hands on.

Then, by fate or chance, she met a wandering knight who managed to become a dear friend. Her dearest out of all the others she made once she left her family to be by his side. Yet this knight was one who was fated to spend his life doing good works and then meet a violent end, plunging the world into despair. This was the decree of the god who ruled over mankind.

The witch did not like this and, seeing her power as one to create miracles instead of mere equations and harmonies, sought to put a stop to this fate alongside their other comrades. The group sought out the center of the universe itself. But rewriting destiny is not without its consequences, especially for one such as the silver witch, who sought only to protect those she had come to hold dear.

Eventually the group found the god who ruled over their people and a great battle ensued. In the end, the god was slain, but the universe was shattered without its support. Among the comrades of the witch and knight a girl stepped forward and, using a powerful song, gathered the shards of the universe onto the sole remaining world, creating a new home for them.

This cost the group dearly. As the shards gathered and became entwined themselves within the landscape, they themselves began to disappear, identities and memories fading as they became part of the new world built on the old. While they still knew themselves, they made a promise to one another to meet once more, no matter how their identities changed in this new world. Hearts lightened by this promise, they made another to find a way to save the girl who sacrificed herself for their sake.

Then the witch fell into a deep sleep, dreaming as one by one her precious memories faded away....

Once upon a time, in a twisted city called Dead End, there was a girl with nothing to call her own, not even a name by which to call herself. As for a home, well, that was nothing more than a hollowed out place where she felt the echoes of those she could call her own. How it got so hollowed out, she did not know, but the thought made her heart ache and she took solace in the one thing besides herself to make its home there: a bush that bloomed with golden flowers.

Within the city where she resided, the girl found herself to be the only living human. To fill in the loneliness she felt, she collected books from among the ruins around her. Stories of princes saving princesses and witches who would put curses upon people and lay waste to anyone who stood in their way. These she read to the flowers that grew within her home and she was content.

Eventually, based on these tales she enjoyed, she chose a name for herself. Thus the girl came to be known as Saya Wielant.

But Dead End was not the safest of places. Amongst the ruins of the city at the end of the universe were monsters the spirits called Silhouettes. Powerful mindless beings who only thirsted for blood. It was not long until one happened upon her home, storming through it and stomping upon the one living thing in its realm-the girl's precious golden flowers.

Something inside Saya snapped then. This was her home. Where her aunt had raised her and cared for her. Where she had grown and loved and been loved. The place she needed to protect! How dare this thing come in and destroy it! It had no right! How she wished it would just go away!

The next thing Saya knew, the Silhouette was enveloped in light.

Then came another. And another. And another still. Each being Saya felled in front of her and she found herself knowing more and more bits of song-verse as time went on. If she wanted flowers to bloom, then they would for a time. If she wished for it to rain, then so be it. Because of these abilities she had no need to worry for food or drink for survival. She only needed to venture into the streets to end those who dared to come and destroy her home, her wishes coming true through song, and her tactics needing to become more creative as more powerful enemies came to take her precious place from her.

Yet nothing she did, no matter how she wished, or how many verses for life she sang, would give life to the gutted crater that was her home, which she promised to herself she would protect. It was all she had, all she was. There was no one else. The wisps of memory of laughter and love only serving to drive that point home. She was all alone in the world.

So she sought to protect it. Saya was an intelligent and creative girl. With her growing (returning? She would idly wonder in the rare moments when she would indulge in curiosity) powers behind her, she set traps and scouted the terrain. Within a few weeks she had turned it into a battleground that few dared to enter-even the spirits themselves.

Thus the girl who called herself Saya Wielant became the silver witch who guarded the end of the world.

Then a wanderer looking for answers sought her out. He was the first living person she had met in Dead End, but she didn't care. To the witch he was just another threat and she met him the same way she did any other who came across her domain: with a barrage of magic that would surely lay waste to him and enchanted traps she had laid throughout the battleground around her home. To her surprise (and secret delight) he not only withstood the initial attack, but kept on coming. No matter how strong the spell or ingenious the trap, he somehow overcame each obstacle. Nothing could stop him.

The witch found herself intrigued. And fearful. What if this wanderer managed to make his way to her home?

Eventually the wanderer came face to face with her on the main street that led to her home and they engaged in direct combat. Their fight tore up the streets, buildings fell and the trees the witch had wished would bear fruit in her earliest days shook from the impacts of axe and spell-verses meeting again and again and again. It looked as if the day would be hers.

Yet it was not. One of her lightning bolts struck his arm and a change occurred in his arm and weapon. The next thing the witch knew, she had been forced to the ground. So shocked was she that she couldn't stand as the wanderer left her. No! No! Her home! He was going to destroy her ho--

The next thing she knew, the wanderer was offering her his hand and said something that was almost a promise:

“You are not alone anymore.”

And thus Saya and Aether decided to travel together. Both were lonely people in the city of Dead End--the only other human they had ever seen in this place with only one thing to take solace in. Yet had they known each other before? As they wandered through the city both of them found memories of a great battle returning to them, of their natures. Aether and herself fighting side by side in a great war that fragmented the world--

--and Saya learned she truly was a witch? Well, then. She was fine by that. Aether worried he was a puppet knight from old legends, but she told him they would find out eventually. They just needed to go looking for it. The ghosts in the city, Aether said, spoke of a desert to the east, where machines were coming to life and creating a society for themselves. Having no other place to go-indeed, now that Saya had someone she knew was from before awakening here, she found her home no longer felt like home-the pair decided to see what there was to see.

And so the adventure of life continued on.

Personality: Detached, cold, and calculating. This is often how Saya comes off to those around her. While this is true to an extent, this isn't all of who she is. Saya is someone who really is disinterested in the world around her with very few goals of her own. She is an introverted young woman not due to some trauma or shyness, but simply because it is who she is. When it comes to her opinions and decisions she is firm in her beliefs and there is no swaying her. She is the sort who will speak her mind when she feels it's necessary and isn't afraid to soften the blow when something needs to be said.

However when something sparks her interest her personality can almost completely turn around. She will become cheerful and enthusiastic, putting her all into the task before her and not stopping until her latest project is completed. Saya will take charge in such a case, even if she tends to dislike the spotlight. She even goes so far as to trick Aether, in the way only a best friend can, into taking center stage for her. Who needs to be the one everyone turns to? It can distract her from her work.

It probably doesn't help that when she has a goal she can work herself to the point of exhaustion. She's passionate that way-when it suits her. Otherwise she comes off as being rather lazy, preferring to stay in a comfortable chair with a book or dozing in the grass under the sunshine.

This does not mean she is without her insecurities. Saya is not emotionally frail, but she has a need something to protect to be able to keep moving forward. Otherwise she has trouble being able to function. She can come off as being perfectly fine, but nothing at all will be able to catch her interest and she will mentally withdraw into herself.

At heart, though, she is a dreamer. In a world where magic is treated like a science, Saya sees it more as if she's making wishes come true. This is not from lack of knowing the theories behind it-the woman reads enough to know them-but a philosophical view she's taken that makes her one of the most powerful witches in her universe.

Strengths:
In the universe she and Aether hail from, everything is coded by a song referred to as the Song of Creation. Every person has a part to play in it, big and small, and it forever shifts to suit the needs of the world. These parts are referred to as Symphonia which are written out just as often as they are written in due to nothing more than the song evolving as much as the world it flows through. Saya just happened to get one of the bigger Symphonia in it-that of the Witch of Miracles.

Normally someone given the role of a witch only has access to a handful of verses that define their area of expertise. What sets Saya apart is not only the fact she has access to the entire Song of Creation, but can potentially rewrite it. Furthermore her view of magic as 'granting wishes' instead of a science defined by laws and rules means she's only limited by two things: Her own imagination and if the proper notes are within the range of a human being. Aether's verse, for example, is one she would not be able to touch, due to some of its chords being below the range of what human ears can comprehend. Examples of things she could do include, but are not limited to, making it rain, making a tree bear fruit before it has even flowered, reversing time, and rewriting destiny itself. There are consequences to this, as detailed in the weaknesses section.

On the battlefield Saya can be particularly devastating. She has no problem with bloodshed or battle and can be vicious in her tactics. While her intelligence is a thing to be feared, her creativity and unwillingness to believe in the concept of 'impossible' mean she's one to watch out for. For example, using her powers she managed to create a deck of playing cards with pre-cast spells set to them. By reading what card it is she has effectively created a shortcut for casting spell-verses. They aren't as strong as when she recites the full spell, but they do just find in a pinch.

If need be, Saya knows how to stand up and get things done--even if it means doing it by herself. She may not like the spotlight, but she is willing to take the lead if she feels the cause is worth it. Sometimes she'll even go so far as to pull off the mission herself. It's okay. Saya knows she can pull of miracles. She can do it!

Weaknesses:
With the power to perform miracles comes a price. The Song of Creation is a constantly evolving part of the universe, as organic as the beings it influences. This means that to rewrite and manipulate it Saya must be very careful not to disrupt its flow when doing anything larger than changing the size of her top hat, making it lightly rain, or manipulate the odds of a dice roll. Until her changes either come into harmony with the Song of Creation or the role she created has ended, she will suffer consequences ranging from temporary loss of senses, illness, or even physical injury.

Despite her abilities, Saya is a human being and has the limitations thereof. She is not invincible nor immortal, and can be physically injured. And while she has great mental strength, she needs--desperately needs for reasons she doesn't yet have the memories to understand--something to protect. This is not a part of her role, but instead a personal need that has to be fulfilled.

When Saya is focused on something she will go to great lengths to accomplish her goal. While many see this as an admirable trait, Saya is one of those people who can do it at the expense of her personal health--even forgoing eating and sleeping to get things done. With how stubborn she can be it would take some effort to finally get her to stop and rest. Even moreso if her project has to do with whatever it is she's latched onto as her charge to protect.

She can come off as being quite anti-social and cold. Whether unintentional or not, Saya has no problem saying what she really thinks and is pretty blunt about it. Not to mention she only becomes lively once she's interested in a subject. Otherwise her preferred activity is to curl up somewhere with a book of fairy tales idling the hours away ignoring everything around her. It's just how she is and she knows this can rub people the wrong way. She just doesn't care to fret about it.

First Person: Q&A. Those are fun. :3

Third Person:

These wings were beginning to get on her nerves.

Saya was not the sort who could be easily annoyed. Indeed, if something got on her nerves she either ignored it until it went away or did something about it. Yet that was quite hard to do when the source of her annoyance was set squarely upon her back. Or, more precisely, her shoulderblades. It didn't help her powers were limited in this place or she would've done what she could to at least take away the aches it caused in her back. Of all things why did it have to be wings? Her wardrobe had become severely limited thanks to them. Why, if she wore her usual style of dress then they would be crushed against her back and the aches she had would become even worse!

What to do? She could try cutting and hemming wing holes into the dresses themselves. Yet how much fabric would that waste trying to get it just right when she had no way to measure it out without trying it on? She couldn't pin it to size--where her shoulder blades became wings she couldn't even reach!--nor would eyeballing it be effective. No, she needed a model. A dressmaker's dummy at the very least. But where to find one....

That was when her eyes landed upon her blue-haired companion, idly running a grindstone over the blade of his axe to sharpen it. A smile he no doubt knew all too well coming over her face. This would certainly prove interesting. If luck was on her side she would be able to alter her dresses specifically to her liking as well.

"Aether, could you do me a favor....?"

And that's the story of how Aether wound up in several of Saya's dresses while she herself sewed a pair of wingholes into the back of them.
