Personality:
Patchouli is first, and foremost, a bookworm. She always has her nose in a book, or at least carries a book around, even for the rare occasions it's used as weapon. To hammer the point, she's in charge of a library. She enjoys reading, and being a youkai, has plenty of time to read every book.
However, this also means that, spending all this time in books and reading, Patchouli is not a very social person. She has trouble speaking with people as friends unless she knows them extremely well, and usually focused on “What sort of information can I get from this conversation?” This makes her seem cold and distant to others; even her voice is rather deadpan at times. However, this does not mean that Patchouli does not have friends, or occasionally desires companionship; it simply takes a great deal to get emotionally close to her.
Also, because of her scholarly pursuits, she is more prone to more complex verbiage...it's apparently rubbing off on me and I'm just writing her app. She also occasionally recites random facts to people, an extension of her belief that conversation is just another exchange of information.
Patchouli doesn't dislike people who know less than her, but she does dislike people who are either thieves, intruders, or remind her of one tomboyish blond haired laser firing witch that always takes her books. She has something of an acerbic tongue, so they may have to go through an intellectuals put-down. Repeated actions of stupidity also annoy her, especially if there is a better solution already.
Patchouli's biggest weakness is her poor health, and she will not attempt to conceal it. Indeed, she will complain about it.
Interestingly, she may refer to people as cats and rats, and even assign them a number on a 96 point scale (96 being the highest two-digit number divisible by both two and three).
What your character can offer: Despite her physical frailty, Patchouli has a mind that more than makes up for it. Although most of her knowledge is about magic in her world, her extensive reading means that she knows about almost anything that is not world-specific, such as certain technological devices, even if she's never actually experienced them. (At one point in canon she did research on and helped construct a rocketship) She can also continue her duities as a librarian, helping to preserve and catalog the books of Discedo.
Patchouli does have magical abilities based off the elements of fire, water, earth, wood, and metal, as well as the sun and moon, but for obvious reasons, they will be suppressed unless a chip removal is possible. She also has the (again, suppressed) ability to fly.
What items will they be bringing with them? Besides the clothes on her back? Seven books from her library, the seventh being her spellbook and used to cast her spells, which will initially be useless.. The information in the other six of the books is irrelevant to Discedo (Four volumes of Perfect Memento in Strict Sense by Hidea Akyuu, and two books written by Patchouli herself, all about her world of Gensokyo), but the books themselves are important. An interesting thing about Patchouli's books is that they are nigh-invulnerable, and so she can actually try to hit her opponent with them without fear of it breaking. Even the pages can't be ripped or torn out, and they won't burn when set on fire. As she says in canon: "Resist fire, resist water, resist magic, resist ghost, 0 for all."
I will accept it if the mods decree no indestructible books. This will mean she has even less of a weapon against the monsters though.

FANDOM: Touhou Project
CANON: Though it has absolutely nothing to do with her, Patchouli is taken from the most recent point in canon, Touhou 12.8 Great Fairy Wars
WHAT THEY LOST: The time she met Remilia Scarlet and began to live at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. This is important because she is a close ally and friend to Remilia (officially she is an advisor), and stays in Remilia's mansion as the librarian for the library inside. It will affect her because it is basically an important part of her past. I should mention this loss actually provides a benefit for the player because canon does not tell us how she met Remilia or began to live at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, thus allowing the player to avoid having to answer any questions regarding that.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER:
(Portions of this were taken from an application I made for another game, I hope that is alright)
The nature of Touhou Project means that many characters have unspecified backstories. What is known about about Patchouli Knowledge is the following: She is the librarian at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and serves as an advisor to the mistress of the mansion, the vampire Remilia Scarlet. They are also stated to be friends. Patchouli is a youkai, which is defined in-game as a catch-all term for almost all supernatural creatures. They are not demons. Patchouli herself is a "magician" type youkai, which is defined as "One who has become possessed by magic, such that the person's body itself is powered by magic". Magician type youkai are capable of great magical power (generally more than a human who can use magic), have an extended lifespan, do not grow older past the point where they become magicians or use a spell to stop the aging process, and do not require the need for food. However, they can still become sick, or be physically frail. Patchouli is about 100 years old and was born a magician youkai (presumably from magician youkai parents). She has a low physical
constitution and seems to have asthma, anemia, and a Vitamin A deficiency, which often makes her so ill she has trouble reciting spells.
In the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Patchouli is the librarian of the Magic Library Voile. While it is in the Scarlet Devil Mansion, it is implied to be Patchouli's own library, and some of the books in it were written by herself. She is devoted to her library and does not suffer people taking books without permission.
Patchouli's magic is elemental in nature, although the elements she uses are fire, water, wind, wood, metal, sun, and moon. She is called the one week wizard because she uses seven elements, one for each day. She can also combine two or more elements to produce a greater effect.
Personality wise Patchouli is first, and foremost, a bookworm. She always has her nose in a book, or at least carries a book around, even for the rare occasions it's used as weapon. She enjoys reading, and being a youkai, has plenty of time to read every book.

FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
Am I doing this correctly? If so, I must make an inquiry: is there any sort of library here? And if there is, does it have a librarian? In my home world I was a librarian myself and I hope at the very least there is something to read here; I would quickly go mad otherwise. Of course, I am also willing to help catalog the books. I thank anyone in advance who provides assistance.
INTENT: Patchouli is a very easy character for me to understand and write about. Plus her love of book reading makes it easier to jump on potential CR opportunities. I will confess I decided to app her in Paradisa because of the reserves of several close canonmates. For the most part, once she gets to Paradisa she’ll probably sit herself down in the library and start reading; what can I say, she likes books. She would be willing to provide information to other characters though. It’s her job.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
Patchouli was reading. This was nothing of great importance. Patchouli was almost always reading. However, there were several instances where Patchouli set her book down to inspect her current surroundings - the library, of course - only to return to her reading when she found nothing of importance.
This went on for some time until she sneezed. As she reached for a box of tissues that were next to her, Patchouli felt that today would not be the most pleasant of days. It was very likely her asthma would act up again, which would aggravate the rest of her chronic conditions, and if she was unlucky they would force her to retire to her bedroom early.
Furthermore, she just knew that the black-white rat would show up today, ready to steal her books. Technically it was just a hunch, but she had developed a sort of sense for when Marisa would strike- even though she didn't keep a regular schedule.
Sakuya’s catness rating was still too low to deal with the problem, and the gate guard… well, the less said about Meiling, the better. She didn’t like to think ill of Remilia either, but she wished her friend would take more proactive action in defending her own mansion from intruders. As for Flandre…why was she even thinking of Flandre in the context of defending her library from Marisa? The whole idea was ridiculous. But then, arguably, the rat’s continued burglaries were also ridiculous.
Patchouli sneezed again. "Ridiculous," she muttered. Everything just felt so ridiculous nowadays, even in a land that some people would find ridiculous in nature. She took a deep breath, and went back to reading.
Even if she couldn't stop Marisa, she would at least finish reading the book. It was very good.
