Interpreting job came a little early

I came home from Andrew's house around 12. I went upstairs and did the usual checking of email and LJ and stuff. Shawn IMs me and tells me that Ryan has been puking and now they're on their way to Kennedy hospital. I start freaking out because I got all worried about Ryan and I really wanted to be there for him and Nasreen. I can't drive past midnight though. But Shawn was able to pick me up.

Now all three of them are Deaf. They had to rely on me to interpret for them. I felt like in any other kind of situation, that would be okay for me. But this is a hospital! I mean, I've heard stories of ethics and codes and stuff and how you should never have your friend has an interpreter because they may withold information and stuff. Plus, my skills aren't NEARLY sophisticated enough to be used for interpreting in a freakin hospital. The nurse even put my name down as the interpreter.

I did my best though. Ryan is fine. He said I was doing fine. Shawn said I was doing very well for someone in ASL 4. Oh God my nerves were shot though. As the night went by, I was getting so tired. I felt like I was going to pass out. I haven't been up this late since...well it's been a while. And at least I was in bed.

I had to follow Ryan around through his cat scan and his chest xray. I had to ask him all these medical questions and I didn't even know what the hell she was talking about. I made sure to confirm everything so I didn't get anything wrong. My receptive skills were okay to say the least. But man, this really took alot out of me. I felt like the world was on my shoulders. I mean, this may not seem like a big deal to a lot of you. But trust me, this was HUGE for me.

Thanks Shawn, Nas, and Ryan, for trusting me. And feel better, Ryan.
