[HP] Comfort 1/1, FR13 Harry/Hermione

Notes: Set during Year Seven (this will probably be very AU with the release of The Deathly Hallows.)
Summary: To Harry, Hermione is always beautiful.
Hermione sat in tears on the couch in the library at Harry’s house. The library was the only room where she could hide from the others so that she could have privacy while she cried her heart out over Ron again. She had thought that when they had ended their Sixth Year, he had been serious about her but it turned out that he wasn’t. He had told her that it wasn’t her but it was him, and that he wasn’t ready to be tied down for the rest of his life, even if he did love her. It didn’t make any sense to her at all, if Ron loved her, then why would he feel the need to date other girls.
“Hermione?” Harry asked from the doorway.
“It’s alright Harry,” Hermione responded as she hastily wiped her tears away.
“No it’s not alright. Ron’s a bloody idiot, and he doesn’t realize what he’s throwing away, just so he can make sure he’s with the right witch,” Harry said with a heavy sigh as he sat down beside her.
“He’s just young and he’s afraid….”
“Quit making excuses for him,” Harry angrily said as he cut her off. “He’s a bloody fool who doesn’t realize that he has the smartest and most beautiful witch of her age by his side. Instead he’d rather play the field.”
“And what of you and Ginny?” Hermione hotly asked.
“That’s different, I don’t want her to be any more of a target for Voldemort than she already is. He hurt her once and I don’t think she’d survive him attacking her again. And even if it wasn’t for that, I can’t lie to her and tell her that I love only her when I don’t.”
Hermione turned so that she was facing him since she was confused by his last remark.
“What do you mean Harry?”
“I mean that I love Ginny but she’ll never be the one for me. I can’t lead her on when my heart belongs to someone else.”
“Who does it belong to?”
“It doesn’t matter, Hermione. Anyhow I am not here to cry on your shoulder about my woes, I am here for you to cry on my shoulder.”
Harry brushed a few stray strands of hair off of her face and smiled at her in encouragement. He wanted to tell her how he truly felt about her, but he knew that now was not the time. She had just had her heart broken by Ron and he wasn’t going to tell her that he loved her when she was already vulnerable.
“I’m sorry Ron’s such a fool, but you shouldn’t waste your tears on him.”
“I know, it’s just I love him so,” Hermione said with a voice thick with tears.
“I know,” Harry said as he pulled her into a hug, “It’ll be alright, just wait and see.”
