Personally, I'm of the 'wait until it's finished' side of the fence, but only for myself. While reading WIP's that never get updated can be frustrating, it is the norm to update as you go so I'm quite use to it. Plus, as you said, feedback as you go along can be very valuable for you. I don't like to post stories until they are complete because I know myself and because I know I'll end up not working on them eventually - for real, not just taking a break 'cause of a hectic RL.
Basically, if I were you, I'd share it on my LJ - with a note about the updates. You could even go a step further and have it flocked or something, and just add people who wants to read it to a filter - but that probably isn't necessary and locking stories is not something I'd suggest.
