{002} Action :: Quad

[Even though the hour is getting late, Selphie is rather comfortably sprawled out on one of the benches that's strewn decoratively about the Quad. There's still just enough light from fixtures and the moon for her to make out what she's scribbling down on her collection of papers

"Studying, Miss Tilmitt?"

[That's the only reason someone would have a notepad and pencil with them...Correct? And Mitsuru looks like she's moving from one study spot to the next, judging by the books and papers she's carrying. Why she's stopping to talk is anyone's guess; it could be that all this late night cramming is beginning to take a toll on her judgement.]

[The sound of Mitsuru's voice caught Selphie's attention nicely. Her new best friend! 8D Selphie grinned up at the red haired woman, before springing up to her feet.]

Studying? Nope! I don't have to, since I'm a SeeD! [Rank A, no Less. There's no studying in Selphie's future!]

What about you huh? You look like you've been studying hard.

"O-oh? Yes, that's right."

[Well. That was an awkward thing to misremember. Somehow, she resists the urge to bury her head in her hand; maybe because both are full of books and notes.

She does, however, nod in response to that question.]

"Studying is the best way to keep busy, and keep a mind focused on the right things, I've found."

[Translation; 'I don't have really bad nightmares if I study until I pass out.']

[Don't worry Mitsuru, she's not judging you for that! Instead, she grins, peering curiously at the books and study materials in the other woman's arms. When she speaks the next time, Selphie doesn't manage to stop her laughter preemptively.]

It's not exactly my number one choice, but if it works for you! Maybe you should take a break, though Mitsuru. Have some fun!

[There's a pretty good chunk of material in her arms; notes taken on Para-Magic, a list of locations on the Galbadian continent, and the like.]

"I did enjoy a break before, you know."

[She feels obligated to point that out.]

"During that concert that Mister Rion performed. I think it would be prudent to hold off on another activity like that until after exams, though."

[But.. But that was a while ago, Mitsuru.]

Ah, well I guess that was something like a break! But you you totally have lots more room for relaxing. You're always so uptight! Relax a little!

But you're probably right. Exams are important after all...

[Wait.]

I guess you're just going to have to come to my birthday party then!

[...What.

For a moment, that tired but resolute look gets replaced with total bewilderment. Technically, that is an appropriate invitation to a gathering, but...Shouldn't there be more...More finesse involved?]

"I...Thank you?"

[She's stunned enough that those words are the best she can manage for a moment.]

"...And I am not uptight. It's discipline, and formality."

[:( Not everyone needs to be formal, Mitsuru. Selphie's probably the antithesis of formal, if you want to be honest. She wrinkles her nose at Mitsuru's retort, though.]

Well, whatever words you want to call it. We're friends right? So you're coming, even if I have to come to your room and drag you out to the party!

[Why does talking to this girl always take a turn for the strange? Having someone so candidly insist on being her friend is also still a bizarre experience.]

"I...Do not believe that such measures would be necessary. I could attend, if the schedule allows for it."

[She also has no doubt that Tilmitt would make good on that threat if she didn't turn up.]

"What time would this be occurring, if I could ask?"

[Congratulations, Selphie Tilmitt. You have gotten Mitsuru to unbend by exactly three degrees!]

[Selphie will have to put another notch in her desk, or something. Hooray!]

I haven't decided, probably at the end of the month, since Exams are going on right now. [She looks thoughtful for a moment, before remarking.]

But I bet you want something more concrete. It's still in the planning stages!

"Thus, why you were working on it."

[Mitsuru nods to those mistaken-for-notes as she says that.]

"If it's after exams, then I have no objections. It would likely make things easier for the students."

[Interestingly, there's no trace of bitterness or envy in her voice as she says that; just stating facts.

...One would think she's actually enjoying this period of the semester, nightmares aside.]

Yep! That's it alright. Mm.. After exams is the best idea. I think we're on the same page there, Mitsuru! So good! You're coming then. I'll make sure to put you on the list.

[Not that, she's the type to exclude anyone. She does look at Mitsuru curiously though.]

Are you mostly prepared for your tests? You seem like the kind of person who would be.

"For the most part, I do feel ready. But there's nothing wrong with taking a few extra precautions, to make certain."

[...She does look just a touch flattered by that, though. Always nice to get praised for one's strengths, even if it isn't in the best form to clearly show any pleasure over it.]
