[And he'll be there, relaxing in a chair and not really looking too paranoid for someone who was just being blatantly paranoid. Now where was that instructor anyway?]

[ Erik's strides were confident as he walked into the library. Given how often he spent his time in there, passing through the shelves and looking for a student that was out of place took little to no time. He caught Marco sitting, far too out of place compared to the few that were there to actually study. ] I assume you're the one on the system?
[ He raises an eyebrow at the gesture, though Erik returns it immediately, a brief but strong handshake. Erik glances around, looking for a nearby chair before waving it over, a thin smile on his face the only indication that he was no longer having issues. ] You should know my name.
[ He takes a seat, crossing one leg over the other and looks over at Marco, judging. ] Why the need for privacy?
[Grins at the firm handshake and grabs a seat. Straight to business. Awesome. He can get behind that. Still, there's a brief pause as he tries to figure out how to explain it.]
A couple of reasons. I prefer not to advertise all my strengths to someone who'd view them as a threat or rivalry, and I like to reserve it for a surprise. On top of which, I've been here long enough to just not be that trusting of people in this world when it comes to accepting things thing should only belong to guardian forces.
You can rest easily, then. [ He leans back into the chair, linking his fingers together. ] I have no desire to view you as a threat, merely embrace whom you are. Unless of course - [ his voice is calm, despite the fact that he just issued a blatant threat ] - you were merely a human prior to this incident.
You can save the hugs mate, I'm engaged. [Sticks his tongue out. Threats don't faze him. He gets them all the time for what he is. -- A pirate, not for his power.]
I'm hardly a human. You remember hearing of phoenixes in class?
[ He scoffs, shaking his head slightly. ] I hadn't even considered that notion in the first place. [ Erik runs a hand along his jaw, a finger over his lips as he considers what Marco had said. ] I have, yes.
Men and women who could transform into a certain type of bird, am I correct? [ It's been years since he sat in a school, give him a break. ]
Well, not exactly. They're usually just birds of resurrection. My switching back and forth at whim is a special case. [Casually leans back with arms behind his head except they're covered in blue flames. "Feathers" though it doesn't look that much right now.] In this world phoenixes are considered a monster that you can keep as a guardian force; or something to collect feathers from to revive someone from unconsciousness. That being said, I don't exactly want to go around advertising what I am too much.
I'm not surprised. Just like every other society, this world has always feared what they don't understand. Using them as summons, as mere materials, is only further support of what they'll do if you let them. [ Erik tilted his head to the side, reminded of how Hank and Raven felt about their abilities, fearful of letting the world know what they were. ] You're in a military school, Marco. This place already sees you as a threat.
[Laughs.] Mate, that is not my worry. Before this, my whole world knew what I was and that I was dangerous. [Points to the tattoo.] This was synonymous with vengeance in my world -- vengeance from me and my crew. I was hunted, but it put me in good company.
[A shrug.] It's just too much hassle dealing with most people. Much less people trying to steal feathers or capture me as a pet. One weirdo picked me up in bird form here and randomly threw me. It's just irritating.
That sort of alliance is necessary these days, especially when you encounter types like that man. [ Erik rests his hand on the aside, his face pressed against the palm. ] And you let that incident slide?
Mah, he was just a dumb kid who really thought I was a bird. For all I know, that's normal in his world. If someone touched my family or friends then they'd be in trouble, but so long as no one tries to pluck me [An eyeroll, kind of hard to steal flames, but he's received those threats.] or capture me, then I'm fine.
Besides, as you'll find from your post, most people from other worlds are more like me in that they come with some sort of power. I just prefer to reserve mine for when it's most useful. Not like you're exactly advertising your ability, eh?
[ Erik nods, running a hand through his hair, his arms folded across his chest. ] Regardless. It's a mere accident I'd be wary of.
And yes, I have learned as much. [ A LITTLE TOO MUCH REALLY THEY WONT STOP BOTHERING HIM. ] Seems like the tolerance for us is higher than I anticipated. A mistake of mine, I'll admit. [ He gives a slight laugh at the mention of what he can do. ] I have no problem advertising what I can do, but as you've said, I rely on it when necessary.
