[Come Wednesday morning, as students rise from their beds as usual, they may notice students and SeeDs alike reading a newsletter. It turns out the Garden has just begun releasing a quarterly newsletter, and the first issue is for the Spring quarter already past. Issues are available for free on racks in the Cafeteria!]
Here To Stay: The Mysterious Off-WorldersIs the Fighting Over? Galbadia and Esthar to Sign Treaty
By: Sera Leradine
(SeeD #34809, Garden Festival Committee Leader)
When the first one arrived and exactly how, no one can say. But one thing is for sure: the off-worlders are here to stay. These refugees from times and places unknown began showing up in our world as far back as three, maybe even four months ago. How did they get here? Why? Are they ALIENS? Do they all come in peace?!
Scientists from the Odine Laboratory assure us they’re researching the cause and remedy for the mysterious off-worlders situation. The only explanation offered so far has been the after-effects of “Time Compression”! A quick history lesson for you slackers: twenty years ago, Commander Leonhart and his legendary team traveled forward in compressed time to defeat the evil Sorceress Ultimecia! That’s why we’re alive today! But it’s also why sometimes mysterious things happen, like aliens and mystery meat Fridays.
Since no one knows what’s exactly causing it, some people aren’t taking news of the off-worlders too well. Some countries won’t even let them in! Talk about paranoid.
For any off-worlders reading this article, we at Garden welcome you! Except for the people who think you’re all Sorceresses in disguise. Okay, okay, that’s not fair. See, (quick history lesson time again!) Sorceresses are usually evil and want to destroy the world. Like Ultimecia. Because of the Sorceress War a long time ago, a lot of people were left home and parentless.
A lot of people lost their lives and the lives of people important to them because of Sorceresses… that’s why some people aren’t very quick to trust them, or anyone like them.
Of course, because the Headmaster decided to take in the off-worlder refugees, that means everyone at Garden has to co-exist! But Garden isn’t the only place that accepts off-worlders. Here’s a list of places that also accept refugees.
Balamb Town - The quiet seaside town on the continent of Balamb! People say that a long time ago, like a whole twenty years, we shared a continent with Balamb Town. Of course, now we’re mobile, so we can go wherever we want! We still station here when we’re in down-time mode, so we’re pretty buddy-buddy with the town. They accept all kinds of people, even off-worlders! And there’s lots of stuff to do over there, so make sure you check it out on a weekend sometime! But remember, don’t break curfew!
Trabia Garden - Our sister Garden to the North that also trains SeeDs! They’re located out of the arctic Trabia! Brr! Unfortunately, they don’t have as many resources as Balamb. Twenty years ago, their facility was decimated by a missile attack. Even though they’ve rebuilt since then, they aren’t as established as Balamb Garden. I hear they have a couple off-worlders taking the SeeD program up there, though!
I guess we’ll see them when they transfer in for the SeeD exam! Quick trivia fact: Did you know that Balamb Garden is the only Garden that offers the SeeD exam? That’s right, you have to transfer here to graduate!
And that’s it! Hopefully the Odine Laboratory will have some more answers for us soon, but in the meantime be sure to be extra nice to your off-worlder friends today! Remember, for as confusing and scary as this all is, they’re probably just as scared! Give your neighborhood off-worlder a hug today!

The longstanding negative relations between the nations of Galbadia and Esthar is no secret to the rest of the world. Most of us can’t remember a time when they weren’t at the brink of war. But that’s all about to change soon. Although an official date hasn’t been set, Galbadian and Esthar ambassadors alike have announced plans to enter into a peace treaty within the next few months.
Discussion began when Galbadians accused Esthar of sending Sorceresses to space too recklessly. Concerns arose over whether the ever-growing population of banished Sorceresses could be properly controlled. Esthar leader Laguna Loire, in return, expresses concern over the possible threat of Ultimecia; in the confusion of Time Compression, anything has become possible. In a quote from an interview with Deling reporter Seloria Gual, President Loire says, “People are saying that Ultimecia's been dealt with, but that's not exactly true. She hasn't even been born yet, as far as any of us know, so we have to prepare for that. When you consider the nature of her power… it's not a matter of if, but when.”.
How this news bodes for the world is uncertain, but for political relations between Esthar and Galbadia one thing is sure: things are looking up.
The Garden Festival Committee is Seeking New Members!Around Garden: What’s New?
By: Sera Leradine
(SeeD #34809, Garden Festival Committee Leader)
We’re moving into the Summer Quarter now and a lot of the Garden Festival Committee’s members are graduating SeeD. This means their time for organizing events and participation will be limited! We’re seeking fresh new faces that are interested in school spirit, writing, dancing, singing and fun! If you want to make a difference in your fellow cadets’ lives, the Garden Festival Committee is just right for you!!
Unfortunately, I, the current leader of the Garden Festival Committee, Sera Leradine, will be graduating after the Summer quarter. This means I’ll be stepping down. I’m looking for a suitable replacement! Spirit is a must! A new leader will be appointed at the end of the Summer quarter, so act now!!
The Garden Festival Committee has a lot on its hands these coming quarters, with a ton of fun events and competitions planned! It’s our job to keep the school spirit up, so make sure you bring your A game! I’ll break down a list of what we’ve got planned so far, but no details! It’s super secret!
First off, Camaraderie Events! With all of these new faces, it seems like a sea of strangers!
That obviously isn’t good. We have to work as a team! Teamwork! Camaraderie Events are designed to familiarize new cadets and SeeDs. Everyone, get along! Yeah!!
Next, a musical concert in the quad! Nothing lifts spirits higher than music. You’ll be able to take a load off and enjoy a concert complements of Garden’s own musical talents!
Chocobo races! Balamb Town is sponsoring an end of quarter race, so make sure you drop by and check out their home bred and raised chocobos! The winner gets to keep their chocobo! But… Garden doesn’t have a stable, so it’ll have to stay in Balamb Town for now.
Club and sponsorship competitions! Where’s your school spirit?! Let’s get some friendly rivalry! May the best club/sponsorship win!
…And more! Coming to you from the Garden Festival Committee. Join today!

Spring quarter was pretty uneventful, but the beginning of Summer exploded with activity. We’ll highlight some of the more interesting tidbits for our curious readers!
A sudden upswing in pet exceptions in the Garden! We don’t know why, but one thing we can say for sure: Aww!
A surge of activity on the BBS! A notable post, “Discrimination of the Junior Cadets in this Garden”, details the brave story of two girls with a dream! Some people didn’t seem to agree. Oh no! Is that Commander Leonhart stepping in to save the day?! Be sure not to miss it - a must read!
Promising new clubs! It’s rumored new cadet Abel has a Home Ec Club in the works, and a Fight Club is well on its way with new cadet Bulla at the helm! Keep an eye out!
Robots?! More rumors about mechanized people! No confirmation yet, but could this be a new android fad?!
The Welcoming Ball was ripe with juicy, promising drama...
...but the spotlight for the evening by far and away was the dance shared by Commander Leonhart and former instructor Quistis Trepe! You can be sure any body who’s any body was watching with bated breath!!
On the topic of juicy, new cadet Souji was spotted after curfew with a mysterious older man!! A possible late-night rivalry, or sordid, secret off-worlder romance?!?!
What's that? Are the new arrivals crazy?!?! With faculty and instructors taking hits to the face left and right, who knows?!
In other news, the T-Rexaur population in the Training Center took a sharp nosedive after the first few weeks of Summer quarter! What’s going on?!
...A weird monster in the Training Center?! A giant snake?! Where did that come from? Cadets beware!
And last on the docket, is it fair to judge a person by their sponsor? Blossoming rivalries and friendships?! Sources say yes! What’s your favorite sponsorship??? Mine is Ruby, they’re so cool!
