[Spend time around Fisherman's Horizon today, and you may run into an unfortunate scene: an armored elf with a huge sword slung over his back, upsetting the locals. He is, after all, rather hostile-looking for such a peaceful and pacifist town, and he isn't even in SeeD uniform. It's more or less the same story at various points during the day:

He doesn't approach the elf yet though -- he's out here for his own reasons, that being his acoustic guitar.
Everyone's used to him playing hip hop or rhythm n blues or drum n bass or electronica but right now he plies the strings and plays something a little different]

That's not really broody music, though. Actually, it sounds rather sweet. Almost like a lullaby. Fenris tries to ignore it for a little while, but soon enough he's looking over thoughtfully in the direction of--oh. It's Bro.
Assume awkward pose.]

Sup.

This town is not to my tastes. It sits vulnerable, surrounded by the open sea, and refuses to defend itself.
[A moment's pause. Okay, might as well get it over with.]
...there is the matter of the dance.

[The tone of the music takes on a bit of a fiercer, spikier quality at that]
Pretty sure both countries fighting forgot why, and they're usin our kids to do it. Mercenaries. Everything's topsy turvy here and nothing makes sense.
[Then a calmer pick and strum]
But it's better than where I'm from.
[He's quiet for a bit, before he actually bothers getting back to that last part]
Yeah, what about it?

A fair point, indeed. I've yet seen little of this world, and what I've seen is madness.
[He can't avoid the subject that way forever, though. He looks up at the darkening sky for a little while, then speaks in a low voice.]
I apologize. I should not have...said the things I did, or made such advances.

It's cool, dude. You're not the first person who's made advances, you were tipsy and it was a dance. Dances are the place for saying stupid shit.
[He turns back to look at Fenris]
Just so you know? Don't usually go for guys. Sorry dude. But seriously, it's cool.

Few in my world even make that distinction when it comes to elves.
[They're all pretty, right? Or something like that.
He tries to force himself to relax somewhat, but succeeds only in dialing the tension down from 11 to an 8 or so. He is, apparently, not capable of standing in any posture that doesn't make him look like he's about to snap and kill everyone at any moment.]
I've attended such festivities before--there is nowhere in Tevinter without danger for a magister with threats and rivals, and my master wanted a shield at his side. But this was...the first I've been to of my own choice. I suppose it is natural, that I would say "stupid shit."

He takes in that comment. So this guy was a slave. ]
I think everybody does that at parties, even if it ain't their first one.
[a pause]
Did you have fun though?

I make no distinction myself. But I would not press you further in any case.
[If Bro hadn't just swept the whole matter away with the, you know, being all hetero up in this thing, Fenris would totally be giving him the "you can do better than me" speech right now. But he did, so he isn't.
Fenris hesitates a moment, then settles down on the ledge next to the lamp post, still with little hint of a slouch to his posture.]
I didn't rip anyone's hearts from their chests, if my hazy memory serves me well. So yes. I believe I did have fun.

That your usual meter for having fun? "Nobody died; must have been a good time?"

[He keeps a straight face, but there's a slight edge of dark amusement to his voice.]
But the drink was strong and the company not as terrible as I feared. As occasions go, I have been to far worse.

... actually I'll be holdin my Coffeehouse sometime soon. Place to share poetry. You don't have to share but you can listen in. Might be a good time.

I would consider it.
[Because he has to be brooding while making that kind of admission.]
Send me word when you do.

[He considers, once again, asking about the slave thing, but it just plain doesn't seem like the time. So he asks:]
Got any requests? Songs, I mean.

I know few songs I would wish to hear again. It would be better if I listened to ones new to me.
