[As much as Tom hated to admit it, exercising in the Boxing room just wasn't cutting it out for him. Some of his colleagues suggested that he should get a workout in the training center, but as Tom saw it? That was less a workout and more a "excuse in killing monsters." The pacifist in him wouldn't agree to unnecessary fighting ( Read more... )

[Even if Cid were the type to push people into pools, he's not exactly in the best position to do so, seeing as he's... already in the pool. As such, it takes him a while to realize that Tom's standing rather awkwardly by the edge, but he eventually stops swimming and settles an arm over a lane marker.

After taking off his goggles and slicking his hair back out of his eyes, Cid fixes the other with a curious look.]

Not getting in?

[Figures that the one day he'd hesitate, his friends notice. Tom gives Cid a nod as he slowly steps back.]

Probably not. It's been a while.

All the more reason, wouldn't you say?

[A faint smile pulls at Cid's lips.]

You are dressed for the occasion already. It would be a waste otherwise.

You might have to pull me in. [Tom's joking a little as he eyes the diving board. Grinning, he holds up his hands as to say "hang on a minute!" before running onto that diving board and cannonballing into the water.

Okay, so he might've splashed half the people in the pool too, but all's fair! He'll grin once he swims over to where Cid is.] ... Or maybe not.

A grand entrance or none at all, hm?

[Cid chuckles and shakes his head lightly.]

I must say I'm glad I did not have to come and fetch you though. You have my thanks for saving me the trouble.

[He mockingly bows - or attempts to, anyways.] I would've gone in eventually! I practically lived here as a Cadet.

Then why the change? I would have thought you'd have more time to spend here after finishing your studies.

Good question. [He shrugs] I guess I realized there was more to Garden than just the swimming pool.

And what would you say is your favorite part of the Garden now?

[completely deadpan:] The Center. No, seriously... I think it's actually the Quad.

[Cid chuckles at that.]

You know, I have to admit the quad is my favorite spot as well. The open skies are always very appealing.

Plus, there's always something going on. If I'm ever bored, I can wander down there and usually find someone.

It's not like here... though I'm kind of glad about that too. [He's not exactly used to the Cadets oogling him - or them, in this instance - whenever he's in the water.]

Very true.

One does not exactly come to the pool to converse with someone--even if that may be the case at the moment.

[He offers Tom a brief smile.]

I imagine we look like an odd pair, chatting in the water.

I don't think that's why they're staring at us. [Tom grins, glancing back at one of the Cadets and giving her a playful salute.]

So why don't we do a race or two? Give them something to actually watch and all that?

[Waving a hand at the little gathering of cadets, Cid sighs good-naturedly before nodding his head.]

Very well then. How many laps and what strokes?

Hmm... I don't really care about strokes, so two laps? Winner gets to buy the loser dinner. [Real rewards? What's that? Tom's just happy to spend more time with one of his best friends.]
