[If anyone were to walk past the Home Economics room, they might be able to catch the faint scent of something burning. It is, in fact, M'gann's first batch of cookies which have suffered a most unfortunate fate. Despite having mastered the recipe of chocolate chip cookies, M'gann isn't exactly in the right state of mind at the moment, her mind too

[ Elika pops her head in, brows knitting, nose wrinkling at the smell of calcination. She looks mildly worried as she spots M'gann stirring with a vengeance. ]

Is everything all right in here?

[hellomgann]

[Mixmixmix-- she looks up at the unexpected voice, and gives the lady a smile that hopefully doesn't look too sheepish.]

Yes! I just burned the first batch of cookies... is the smell that strong outside?

[ Elika answer's M'gann's smile with a reassuring one of her own. She brings up her hand, bringing the thumb and forefinger close. ]

Only a little bit. Did you miss the oven alarm?

[ She's not wearing her translation collar, so she has something of an accent when she speaks--nothing too noticeable, it's obviously been smoothed out with practice. ]

[Oh no; she had opened the small window in the room in hopes of airing out the burnt scent, but apparently that hadn't been enough. What if the entire school could smell the charred baked goods?]

I missed it by several minutes-- I was a little... absentminded. I burnt my cookies the first time I ever baked them but I had hoped to not make the same mistake again. [There's a little slump in her shoulders as she thinks back to her first little baking fiasco, which naturally has her thinking about her team. Which in turn has her thoughts turned to Connor, which leads to exactly why she was baking now in the first place.]

[Sharpay was actually just on her way to the home ec room to see if she could find some home ec student to bribe into making her cookies to pass out for her Homecoming Queen campaign, but the smell of burning has her rethinking this plan, or at least rethinking grabbing the first enterprising young home ec student she sees.]

Keep more of an eye on this batch; you don't want to set off the smoke alarms.

[Sharpay takes a tiny bottle of perfume out of her purse and sprays the air a few times to illustrate her point.]

[So concentrated in her work, M'gann looks up with a start when she hears a voice addressing her; she didn't hear anyone coming in. Her expression becomes sheepish.]

Oh! Yes, sorry. I usually don't burn my cookies...

[Sharpay waves a hand airily as she puts the perfume away.] I don't usually make cookies. You've already got one up on me!

[She grins, just a tad self deprecatory, before her expression softens a little.]

Something on your mind? [Hey, she used to date a baker; the dude must have gotten it wrong sometimes.]

[Oh no-- Sharpay's question pretty much solidifies what she fears most. Is she really that readable? M'gann flushes a bit, looking back down to her bowl of dough.]

Is it that obvious? But then again, the post of the BBS said I was...

[ Burning? More like DELICIOUS.

Jade often lets her nose lead her, and today is no exception. The scrawny girl watching you make cookies is eyeing the stove hungrily. ]

So. Are you going to make them well done, or just medium rare?

[She's almost finished the dough to the second batch of cookie when the voice surprises her. Looking up, M'gann gives the female a quizzical look.]

I thought there was only one way you could bake cookies?

[ She shrugs a little. ]

Yeah, there is, it-- it was a joke, kinda. What type of cookies are you making?

[Oh, a joke! M'gann should have caught on to that. She looks a bit embarrassed, but tries to recover.]

I'm baking chocolate chip cookies. I burnt my first batch, though... hopefully this second one will turn out better.

[Zephyr wrinkles his nose at the smell of burnt food but pokes his head in all the same. He knows there had been an actual fire the other day, so he can't help but wonder if someone's made the same mistake.

Who he sees there, though, is a bit of a surprise to him. A baking accident with M'gann? But her cupcakes had been perfect...]

Hey.

[Oh, a familiar face! M'gann brightens up someone, but remembering the tray of burnt cookies just off to the side which might be why people would even think to check the Home Ec room on the weekend, her smile turns sheepish.]

Hi! I'd offer you a cookie, but... I burnt them.

[easilytriggered]

[Zephyr edges closer and offers her a shrug. He comes to a stop and leans against the counter.]

It's fine. Already ate too many of your cupcakes.

You tryin' again?

[He gestures at the bowl of cookie dough.]

[M'gann nods, her lips curling into a smile as she looks up at Zephyr.]

Yep! The first batch is inedible so I figured I should at least make something that people can eat.

[This week had been a blur of classes and material. Mitsuru naturally embraced it all, as it was a welcome mental exercise. But even with the much welcomed chaos of classes, she did recall that almost-promise to meet Miss Mors for a baking exercise. She follows the directory to where the home economics room should be, briefly indulging in a fantasy of more of those cupcake pastries-

Therefore, the smell of something burning throws her off quite badly. Enough that she stands in the doorway, quite shocked, for a long moment before she has the presence of mind to speak.]

"Cookies are meant to be flambéed?"

[M'gann freezes mid-mixing as she hears the familiar voice from the entrance. Oh no, Mitsuru can't see the burnt cookies! M'gann had promised her friend her deliciously moist chocolate chip cookies and if the burnt disaster was to be seen, she was sure that the redhead would doubt her baking abilities. Turning to face the door, the martian gives Mitsuru a sheepish smile.]

I accidentally left them in the oven for too long. But, don't worry! I'm making another batch now and I promise they'll be good.

"...Oh."

[There's as much 'I realized that, you know' pumped into that word as physically possible. Not that it's very convincing.

Another moment of looking in at the kitchen, and Mitsuru realizes that standing in the doorway is likely not the smartest, or politest of places to be. She steps just inside and out of the way, still giving M'gann a careful look. Cooking, baking, and the like have always been staff regulated things, and she looks quite out of her element being here.]

"I'll just..."

[Do something. But all those ingredients on the counter look absolutely foreign to her, so she settles with,]

"Stand over here?"

[Really, M'gann is just happy knowing that Mitsuru didn't turn on her heel and leave the classroom. Relaxing somewhat as the other female finds a spot to stand next to the counter, M'gann begins to mix up her dough again, making sure that the chocolate chips are incorporated evenly.]
