Dance Class Cadets! goldincartoss June 24 2011, 22:53:59 UTC
[Oli is on the floor, stretching his leg muscles by doing to the splits perfectly.]

I don't expect you to be able to get this far, but you need to stretch as far as you can. Remember, stretching before and after class reduces the chance of injury. [His tone suddenly becomes much less serious.] It's also where you feel the burn the most! So feel it!

[And he's up on his feet!]

Okay. So. We're swing dancing this week, and as it's Friday it's paired evaluations and remember. For the love of all the gods in every world, make sure that you are concentrating. Lifts are dangerous when performed incorrectly. But other than that, relax let the music take you and have fun!

[Espio is grouching off to the side, not really interacting with anyone in here while he does his own stretches - the ones he does before a work-out rather than anything especially for dance. He... looks bored. And the class only just started.

Who knows if/how he's gonna get a partner for these evaluations.]

Not to criticise your stretches at all because they're very good for other things, however you need to stretch your inner thighs more and really make sure you've got those arm muscles nice and stretched. Swing is all about the looseness and lifts.

[He's not picking on you at all. Just being a teacher. And he'll find you a partner. Even if he makes you do it with him after the class gets out.]

Uh-huh. Right, right, I got it.

Even if you are aiming for the silliest-looking dance ever seen.

[He grins. And does The Turkey Trot]

Yeah. Still lacking in the awkward of the three foot seven lizard leading a dance with a human woman two foot taller.

Well. If you like you can sit out the paired assessments and you can show me how you'd do the moves with me or a training dummy? I'm not into making my students do something that makes them uncomfortable.

Whatever the purpose of this class is, I'm pretty sure that'd defeat it.

[Well, there seems to be plenty of instructor-cadet interaction in this class. Quistis remains in the back off the ballroom as she watches Espio and Oli, jotting down notes every now and then.

Don't worry, Oli-- she's very sympathetic towards instructors who get flack from their cadets.]

So... How may I help you Lieutenant Commander Quistis Trepe?

[He gives her a short bow.]

[Quistis gives a small smile.]

Please, just call me Quistis. I was just going around and checking up on all the classes, seeing how things are doing. How are you, Instructor Westcliffe?

Dandy! Really enjoying the job actually.

[He moves over to his duffel bag and picks up a bottle of water and towel. He dabs his face and takes a quick sip of water.]

I hope I'm not going to get in trouble from letting the students do a little bit of the teaching job. [He said with a grin. He had his reasons and would be happy to explain them, if the smart lady hadn't already picked up on him.]

Oh, of course not-- different instructors have different methods of teaching which work for them. After watching the class for a little bit, I'm sure I would have enjoyed this class much more if my instructor taught the class as you do.

[Quistis gives him an encouraging smile, hopefully one that would convey that this visit isn't one to try and get any instructors into trouble.]

Dance can be fun. You just have to mix the discipline with reward and praise. If you're sitting there barking at people for getting it wrong they're never going to learn.

[He said with a big smile.]

And... that is the compliment I've had from a lot of people. "You make this more enjoyable." ... Who taught it before me? A dragon?
